  • Will ASSIO4ALL mess with other ASIO drivers? (p.2)

I don't have any issues with asio4all. I had unending loads with regular installed soundcards (w7-64). the virtual ins and outs come in extra-handy too.

if you are using ASIO4ALL, you are BYPASSING your native ASIO drivers on any soundcards you have installed and are actually using their WDM drivers through an ASIO wrapper (ASIO4ALL).

To be clear: I have auzentech soundcards (disabled for audio creation purposes)- those were made with C media chipsets (as in soundblaster cards). i also have an akai EIE Pro interface, but experienced blue-screen issues as similarly reported by others.  There are no other ASIO drivers for these things that i know of, be they "real" or imagined. My experience with ASIO4All  has been nothing other than positive. I am only using a midi keyboard controller and MPC, no miked vocals, guitars etc. so perhaps those devices have different needs- but in terms of my personal experience, asio4all has done a fine job, without issue or expense.

There is a huge difference when recording audio. Pure MIDI work will be in time no matter what the driver. But I bet if you did a audio loopback test on that system using asio4all the tracks would be out of sync.
Asio4all is usefull for people with consumer level gear which does not come with drivers. A lot of USB mikes and stuff that work fine on MAc's don't work on PC and on board sound. So asio4all to the rescue.

Thanks for all the answers. I'll leave well enough alone. I had ASIO4ALL once upon a time but removed it when I got the Octa-Capture. I thought I remembered that it wasn't really compatible. IT isn't worth the risk of trouble when I have other solutions. I was just thinking of the very small size of the iRIG Pro and it's being USB powered but, so is the UX-2 and I could get some other mobile interface if I need it but when I upgrade to the 6+ this will all be a non-issue. Sonar on the laptop and DAW, mplitude, MultiDAW, and other APPs on the phone for easy playing around outside.
Thanks all!

Asio4all is a very mature piece of software and harkens back to a time when a lot of hardware didn't have ASIO drivers. So in some situations it provides an answer. Today though I don't know of any audio devices that don't provide ASIO drivers. This lack is more likely in consumer equipment built for windows where MME and WDM drivers are the norm. Unfortunately when you do have ASIO drivers installed for a particular audio device and install asio4all as well, there have been some big problems only solved by uninstalling asio4all.

If you're using asio4all without problem then that's fine.
