  • How Many Here Use ReWire?

When ReWire first came out, some of the folks at Propellerheads commented that Sonar's implementation was one of the best. It certainly was rock-solid. I often used Reason as an outboard "instrument rack" for Sonar, and it still does that well. Even though I have Komplete, which has a lot of overlap, I still like Reason's virtual instruments. (I used to ReWire Live into Sonar, but that became less important with the arrival of the Matrix view.)

So I was wondering how prevalent ReWire use was among the community here. Do you use it? Used to use it but don't any more? Want to check it out? If you use it, what do you ReWire into Sonar? Inquiring minds want to know...

I used to use it with Sonar 7 and Project 5. It was cool but kind of a pain to manage everything, like all the routing of in/outs between the program. Then later when I would go back to the project I would always find something missing, like one of the plugins I no longer had or even worse, I couldn't find the corresponding Project 5 project that went with the particular song in Sonar. If I find myself using in the future I will definitely quickly convert all the rewire stuff to audio in Sonar.

I rewire Reason. Very fun combo.

I use it for Notion, there is an experiment I still haven't run where you can rewire Reaper.  This might be a workaround for vari-speed.  Lol. ;)  I hope this is Cakewalk testing out getting rid of rewire.  It has it's uses.

It's not Cakewalk testing out anything, I'm checking out the level of interest to see if I should write anything applications-oriented about it.

I use it with Live. It is useful I think, though I'm not always comfortable with the 'rewiring' process. I have tried to use Matrix View but while useful, it is not the same as full blown Live...so Rewire it is.

There's a way to use Sonar but mix in Mixbus. It seems complicated and a lot of work but I would like to try it once. If I like it I'll continue but MB only has 4 busses at present and 4 is not enough.

I haven't used rewire yet but I'm very interested in trying it out. I have Live and was considering getting Reason. Are there any good tutorials or examples available for setting it up and using it?

I got it working, but never actually used it in a project, when some vsti were working in an other DAW but not in Sonar X.  That issue has since been fixed, so I do not use it at all.....but it was cool once I got it working and saved as template.

I would be interested to see what other uses rewire has.

Avoid it nowadays. Mostly unnecessary.
