It doesn't work well for notation in this case because Sonar has to be the Host. Now if Notion could be the host you could write your midi score in Notion Rewire to sonar as Midi and return the audio in Notion. Sadly it doesn't may works as the former not the latter.

I see no reason why Notion could not just return silence, and make use of the midi to make score for you.

I rewired Reaper into Reaper doing that - since it can work as both rewire host and rewire client.

Not sure what is least amount of work with most benefit to users - extend notation as it is now in Sonar or put all effort on extending rewire abilites. What may come for free is Waves connection from Tune could work within Sonar, making Sonar transport and Tune sync properly to run in loop on a time range section etc.

I have just begun using Sonar Professional after using Reason exclusively for years.
It's a great program. I'd even say it can be quite a teacher when it comes to synthesis, signal paths, and creative mixing techniques. The version i have doesn't have any vst capability(6.5.2), but i love it, so i kept it.
Prior to this setup, i was running Reason in tandem with Komplete 8, Maschine, and u-he's gorgeous VST's within Logic (before the upgrade/downgrade debacle took place).
Anyway, the need for more diverse eq's and signal proccesors overall is what leads me here.
but my inital question to the salesperson was, "Does it have reWire?"
Resounding yes=sonar professional!
diving into rewire TODAY.

Reason complements SONAR very well, given that Reason provides a rack of useful instruments. FWIW when Cakewalk implemented ReWire the guys from Propellerheads said it was one of the best implementations, if not the best implementation, they'd seen of ReWire.

I used it in the Gigastudio days, before they came out with a VST version.

It was difficult to get consistent performance.

Can't wait to really see it in action.
I think i got a little overambitious in trying to rewire a fully loaded reason song file (16 GB of RAM can get your head in the clouds real quick). then i realized that i was trying to reinvent the doggone wheel, and just bounced out the tracks and made the song sound 280% better. That's some true percentage.

Checked out your guide and that was the only way i even attempted half of it, so grateful for you writing that.
for anyone else searching or trying to figure it all out,
Start from the beginning of the guide to play ReWire and Sonar.
