  • How Many Here Use ReWire? (p.8)

I've tried rewire a few years ago with P 5 and it actually inspired me to a new song then. (See my signature...)
I wouldn't  know what to use it for these days. I don't have a reason to work in Reason or P 5.
X 3 with some additional instruments covers pretty much all my needs at the moment...

Best regards

Hi,
I tried Rewire with Sibelius and Sonar X3 Producer a few weeks ago, but have no luck. I tried everything I found here in the forum and in the internet, but the "Rewire-Button" in Sonar was alway greyed out. It was the small version of Sibelius (Sibelius First), which also supports Rewire. Maybe Notion is a better choice, but is is not available in german, or am I wrong?

Kind regards, Timo

When ReWire first came out, some of the folks at Propellerheads commented that Sonar's implementation was one of the best. It certainly was rock-solid. I often used Reason as an outboard "instrument rack" for Sonar, and it still does that well. Even though I have Komplete, which has a lot of overlap, I still like Reason's virtual instruments. (I used to ReWire Live into Sonar, but that became less important with the arrival of the Matrix view.)

So I was wondering how prevalent ReWire use was among the community here. Do you use it? Used to use it but don't any more? Want to check it out? If you use it, what do you ReWire into Sonar? Inquiring minds want to know...

I'm using it for the same reason.

Maybe the issue is that ReWire is specific to 32- and 64-bit systems. Both Sibelius AND X3 must be either 32-bit or 64-bit, with the appropriate ReWire dll in the system.

Just curious. Why would you want to rewire Notion? I can understand Live and Reason, they have lots of toys.
Does it have better sounds or is the notation so superior that you can express things in it that you can't  in Sonar?

I am asking myself the same question.

Ok, my preliminary report. I had only played with Notion a 3 hours. This is what I find.
Sample Tank3 can't load samples in Notion5. A visit to presonus forum revealed that this is a windows only problem. The mac users are having a party ( just a figure of speech).
To add insult yo injury, the 32 bit version of Notion5 wouldn't load Miroslav Philharmonik vst.
So Notion5 and Ikmultimedia doesn't seem to work together at least for now. I can't use Miroslav Philharmonik either way.

Back to the Rewire topic, I had tried rewire notion5 into X3 and it works. First step that I missed initially was to enable rewire inside Notion first. The bundled sounds that came with Notion5 are quite good. However, I am not sure if there are different articulation available in the orchestra sounds.
Notion can send up to 32 channels of audio via rewire.

One interesting feature of Notion5 is the Ntempo. I can control it's playback tempo in realtime by tapping a qwerty keayboard. I can imagine playing piano live with a second person 'conducting' the midi orchestra.

One question for rewiring people using Notion or Sibelius. Is this possible?

1Compose midi data in sonar.
2 Export xml.
3 Import Xml with no problem.
4 Play midi data from Notion into Sonar.
5 tracks in sonar play the vsts and use keyswitches?
6 Mix final audio in Sonar.

Is it possible??
