I am new to notion5.I can answer your question 2 and 3. No, sonar does not save in xml format. The work around is to save in midi format 1 and notion would gladly open it. You need convert the midi into notation inside notion. I have not tried sending midi from notion5 into sonar x3. It is still possible because notion5 does allow midi out for up to 4 ports (64 midi channels). I can imagine you would need midi cables and interface for that. A second work around is to play the vst instruments and effects within notion5. But I am not sure if notion5 can play back continuous controller information as good as sonar.

Sonar does not save in xml format.

The Producer version has been able to export MusicXML since X2 but cannot import MusicXML.

Thanks. I stand corrected. Didn't know that Sonar X3 could do that.

You're not alone   I think that might be because only the Producer version supports it.

One question for rewiring people using Notion or Sibelius. Is this possible?

1Compose midi data in sonar.
2 Export xml.
3 Import Xml with no problem.
4 Play midi data from Notion into Sonar.
5 tracks in sonar play the vsts and use keyswitches?
6 Mix final audio in Sonar.

Is it possible??

I've tried this with both Sibelius and Notion4 with mixed results.  It was a while ago, but if I remember correctly, Sibelius did not see rhythms correctly (too many beats in a measure) ...Notion4 was better.  One of them could see Chords from the Sonar XLM.

Notion can not send midi into Sonar thru rewire....... unless you get a Plug in called Rewire VST, but that will only work for one midi track.

I did a search for xml in sonar's help file and I got nothing. Talking about hidden features. I am glad I learned something new. I had done some short orchestration pieces in sonar. Can't wait to xml them into notion5.

It's definitely not easy to find, you have to choose it from the "Print" tab in staff view.

I'm using Bidule as a live performance VST Host and thought that if I Rewired it into Sonar (Platinum) that I could bring the audio into Sonar for recording. Being new to both Bidule and Rewire, I'm not at all sure how that works. Sonar sees Bidule as a Rewire Device and when inserted, creates either 8 Synth Tracks or 16 MIDI Tracks, but NOT the 2 audio tracks described by the online help/documentation. When I start Bidule I get a message "Waiting for Rewire Master Application to start audio processing" and it just hangs there. Neither the Propellorhead Blog nor the Bidule Forum have anything to say on the subject, and every online example uses Reason. I haven't tried loading Bidule as a VST yet, as it can't be used without a license for the standalone version, and getting this to work is the main reason for using Bidule, since I already have a licensed copy of Cantibile, which works quite well but isn't Rewire-able. Any ideas on how to get audio from Bidule into Sonar, with or without Rewire?

It's not Cakewalk testing out anything, I'm checking out the level of interest to see if I should write anything applications-oriented about it.

I would find a tut on using rewiring in notation software - and maybe different apps like Sibelius and others - really interesting.

Or other way around, rewire Sonar into notation software.

Personally I stay away from Avid anything, but any other notation would be swell if supporting this application extending Sonar staff view limitations.

I use rewire with Reason all the time for everything from Reason synths to effects. I also have Reason's Drum Takes that I use a lot. It's another set of tools to me. I would like to see what you could come up with that many of us have probably not considered with rewire.
