Recently I noticed that my Slate VMR no longer appeared in my VST list. Odd, I thought, but figured I just needed to rescan the VSTs. Did that. No dice even though I could see the *.dll in the proper location. So then I moved it elsewhere and changed the settings that control where the scans are pointed to in the file system - still no joy.


Frustrated by this point and figured I'd reinstall and I did without an issue. Rescanned afterwards and STILL nothing.

WTF ?


Then I remembered that there was a "VST Exclude" function somewhere (I'd never used it actually) and found it in VST Manager.

And lo and behold there was my Slate VMR listed along with a handful of Cake plugs. I never put them there and in fact didn't really know you COULD exclude VSTs.

Anyone see this before ? All is normal now but jeez did I waste some time chasing this down...

Did you try resetting prior to rescanning?

I don't believe that I did.



Still puzzled how a handful of VSTs found themselves in the "exclude" list.

Cakewalk excludes some plug-ins which are installed in the PC path and used for style dials and region FX. If the plug-ins were not excluded they would appear in the regular plug-in lists and not work correctly.

With the Lexington release a bunch of my VST dlls were added to the registry as not being VST files at all.  They weren't put on the exclude list (I don't think they were, but come to think of it I didn't check), but were marked in the registry as being not a VST files.  The scanner normally does this so support DLLs don't require rescaning every time it starts up.  But for some reason it decided to mark several real VST dlls as not being plugins.  A full reset might have cleared it up but I just fixed them by hand.
