  • Pleasantly Surprised by Strum 2 (p.4)

I went ahead and used Command Center and chose "update all" and then "install all".  And now Strum 2 does show up in 64 bit. I now see 64 bit Plat is Lexington. I opened 32 bit and it's still Ipswich, so I installed "Platinum Instrument Collection"  and Strum 2 is now installed in both 32 bit and 64 bit.

I remember last year when Command Center first came out there were a lot of requests to have it also update 32 bit Plat not only 64 bit. Unless I'm missing something here,  this request has been swept under the rug. I know for a long time I'm going to have to have 32 and 64 bit both installed. I'm already using 64 bit for all new projects and after a couple of more months I'll be done with the last big 32 bit projects and can use 64 bit, except when I have to revisit a 32 bit project.

I believe enabling "Verbose Install" on the Command Center settings page will cause the 32/64bit option to be displayed in the installers run from the Command Center.

Whether a package gets installed/updated depends on you. If all you run are the SONAR Platinum installer, the other installers in the SONAR Platinum family will not get installed. As mentioned above, Strum Session 2 is in a separate "Platinum Instrument Collection" installer. The new SONAR does not have the old advanced install option using one big installer. Instead, the plug-ins are grouped into several smaller installers.

I have been running the installers, but I must have accidently skipped Platinum Instrument Collection, so I now have Strum 2.

So are you sure that no plugins or soft synths are installed with these updates like Lexington? I thought I remember seeing those long list of items with the check boxes under custom install. I certainly didn't see any of those windows when updating last night. Thanks for the info!

Yes I see you're correct. I just tried it in Command Center. This will make my life easier - thanks! I guess the next step would be if when it checked for updates it would also show the status of 32 bit updates too. But even so this is a huge improvement to Command Center.

So this gets back to my original question - if I do skip any updates like Ipswich UP5 and go from say UP4 to UP6, won't that be ok for that type of update? Of course I'd need to update the other things like the Plat instr collection separately.

Yes, the installers for each item in the Platinum family are independent and cumulative. Skipping an update to the core will not impact the other installers. There is an issue regarding plug-ins retired over time and performing an historically complete install of Platinum but this is no different than having to use prior versions of SONAR to reinstall discontinued plug-ins.

Got Strum 2 working fine now and I must say I'm very impressed. I'm glad I read this thread. I spent about 2 hours with it today. At first it was a little confusing, but there's a lot more to it than you realize at first.

I'm digging into and dissecting how it works. It's really an ingenious soft synth. I'm looking forward to studying it further. I may end up getting the full version. I think combining it with guitar rig may be really cool.

I just purchased the GS2 upgrade from the store. I have been working with the Session Ver. included with Plat and was happy with what was there, but the upgrade was 49 bucks and who does not want to be happier.

I have played with the full version using the midi tracks I developed on the Session version. I do separate tracks for "strumming" and chords. The sound is so much more pliable with the full version 49 bucks of happiness for me.

My advice if you liked the Session ver. don't worry be happy.

Hello, just wondering where you found the $49 upgrade.  When I look in the store it is $199.

Thanks

Click the buy option and then look at your cart mine changed to 49 bucks, I had received an email from cakewalk advertising it for that (49 as an upgrade). Hope it works for you. If not 199 is going to need to deliver more happiness than I might vouch for.
