Hey folks. I'm really close to finishing a track in X3 Producer but would like to use VocalSync on parts. The syncing I did with Melodyne are pretty good and musical, but wondered if it's worth risking an upgrade during a project just for VocalSync?

Is it better to uninstall X3 first or upgrade over the top?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

All versions of Sonar happily coexist and share any necessary files without issue. Just make sure to backup your project as it exists in X3 before you start experimenting in Platinum.

There is no need to uninstall a previous version before installing a new version.

I very recently moved from X3 to Platinum. Installed over the top as I found most do. Went seamlessly. My existing projects all work fine.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. That's what I needed to know--and thanks for the reminder to do the backup. I think I'll also create a system restore point before the upgrade --just in case! 😎

I would never uninstall a Sonar version simply because I am upgrading to a new version. If you are doing a clean install to a new HD. I would install the older versions plugins I needed but not the older version of Sonar. These are ones that are no longer in Sonar. R-Mix for example or Pantheon.

This method may change in the upcoming version. I would go for it now.

Another good point. I certainly don't want to lose any plug-ins, especially if I have some in the current track.

Every other Sonar upgrade I've done I've installed the new version "over" the previous. I believe when I upgraded from 5 to 8, it left two completely independent versions intact on my DAW. I didn't really care for that, so that's why i asked.

Thanks again

All versions of SONAR install in separate directories. The shared components such as the plug-in utilities and plug-ins themselves do get overwritten. The actual SONAR program does not. SONAR Platinum is no different, the actual program installs in a "SONAR Platinum" folder, it will not overwrite the "X3 Producer" folder. It will also create separate master files in ProgramData, user files in your user AppData area and Cakewalk Content. SONAR Platinum will overwrite the shared folders and plug-ins.

Got it. Not my fav, but I understand.

Here is a breakdown I did some months back regarding SONAR disk usage which may be of interest http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3179366. If you want to slim down X3, delete the tutorial folder in Cakewalk Content.
