So if I have interpreted the above thread correctly:
1: I install Platinum along side X3
2: if I have plugins in X3 that are not included with Platinum, the separate platinum install will overwrite the plug in folders?

How do I keep those older plugins for use in platinum?

I've never had a newer version of SONAR disable or overwrite old plugs. They just plug along (pun intended).

No. The only time plugins are removed is if/when you uninstall previous versions of Sonar

Right. What I was talking about is if you are installing on a new HD one that has no previous version on it. You will want to also install old plugins from older versions that include those plugins. No overwriting is done.
