I know about this.
I come from the olden days where you could shut off an XT PC at the C: prompt via a hard switch
while walking away.

I don't want to be in a business tier or any of that. I have 7 and it's my servant.

Cool songs on it too btw. ;-)

Craig,
Was your update a clean install or did you update over your older operating system? I don't want to do a clean install if I can avoid it. I also suffer from FOCUS. Right now with Windows 7 my system is quite stable and problem free.

That's the beauty of the update, I did not need to do a clean install. So far everything has worked except for the V-Studio. There's a hack for it that works with Windows 10, and according to posts in the hardware forum Roland has an "unofficial" driver if you contact them, but I'm converting to touch anyway (one of the reasons I updated to 10) so it doesn't affect me. The only other hiccup, if you can all it that, was that a dialog box came up asking me if I wanted Windows to install the drivers for the TASCAM US-4x4. Clicked yes, and that was covered.

In the immortal words of Herman Cain, "I don't have facts to back this up" but I suspect those background updates happening to Windows 7 or 8 are essentially turning it into Windows 10. Vista was like this - but the time you did the last Vista update, you were essentially running Windows 7.

Hi. I did an upgrade on my laptop the day it became available. I have had no issues at all. So I decided to do a clean install on my Studio pc. All I can say is that I concur with this being the best OS MS has delivered so far. I have my laptop set to auto update, and my Studio pc set to manual (I do not remember how I got manual updates on my Studio pc, but it was during install). Everything is very stable (besides a few user errors)
All the best.

I'm finding this to be a very encouraging thread . After trying out Windows 10 on a laptop that came with it installed as the OS , my feeling is this may be the best Windows OS I've ever used .The one or two little bumps in the road with getting Win 10 to accept  my 2i4 as the primary sound card I've experienced seem to be working themselves out ...
May I ask what which Windows OS you had on your computer before you did your in place upgrade to Win 10 ?
The only reason for that question is my Humble main Win computer came with Win 8 64 and I have kept it there at 8.
I would find it helpful to find out if I can just bypass 8 .1 and go from 8 to 10 ..VIA an install over my current OS ..

thanks ,

Kenny

^^ I had Win 2000 X86 (obviously) XP X86, then Vista X86 (M-Audio Delta 1010lt), Win7, X64 (Lexicon IO42, Echo Audiofire 8), (laptop came with Win8.1 X64) and finally updated / upgraded to Win10 X64 (RME Ucx). All good on my end
All the best

Windows 7 Professional. I really disliked 8 and didn't put it on any of my Windows computers. My reaction to 10 is the polar opposite. And as I mentioned before, I suspect quite a bit of the code you have is Windows 10-primed if you've been doing your regular Microsoft updates.

I also like that some things have been added in the background. For example when W10 first came out you couldn't play DVDs on it, then one day a DVD player appeared.

I suspect that Microsoft will accomplish their goal of separating me from some disposable income in the future when they offer something almost cool for free, but which you can upgrade for a nominal fee. Meanwhile I've also upgraded to a 27" multitouch monitor and TASCAM's USB 3.0 US-20x20 interface, so I'm feeling very 21st century right now.

Tip; Some of you may know this. Windows 10 has the ability to have multiple desktops. If you click on the task view icon on the task bar you can create and access more desktops. Each one is independent of the others. You can also access them by swiping from the far left on a touch screen.

Windows key + tab will show all open windows. This is very useful for finding hidden windows or for changing tasks.

Windows 10 is ok for recording music, but I really wish that the presentation mode available on laptops using Windows button+x would be available on desktops and prevent indexing, defragging, patching or other daw unfriendly activities. Without this, Windows remains the biggest risk to me making successful recordings.

These days I'm half and half Windows and Linux for live recording.

Can you write more about what 10 is doing with indexing, defragging and other DAW unfriendly activities? When is it doing those things and how is it affecting Sonar?
