Please excuse my ignorance; A friend just gave me his roland duo-capture mk2 (plus cakewalk) that he gave up on, not having the patience to even try to install it. I've just been trying to install the duo capture, without success.  So I looked at the roland web site; I couldn't find any help. Then came across you lot. I followed the installation instructions carefully.  I have windows defender running (windows 8.1); maybe this is the problem? Apologies if I'm not in the right place, but any help appreciated.

What exactly happens when you try to install it? Error code or crash? Here is the drivers and perhaps some help:

I run the setup prog'. It gets to "Ready to install the driver", then I plug in the usb and get the message... "may take several minutes"; then nothing else happens when left for 30 mins.
I've tried with Defender turned off. The box is set to Computer (not tab).
The duo capture is maybe 2 years old, unused.

Is there some indication that the computer recognizes the sound card?

It just gets to that point, then nothing.  The computer is pretty modern, Samsung laptop.  No bugs on it.

Have you tried different usb ports? Also you could try another usb cable. The setup might work best if running with full admin rights not only run the setup as an admin.

Some devices will tell you when to plug them in during installation. Read the instruction for this.
Plugging in too soon will often abort the drivers.
And be careful of USB 3.0 ports, many interfaces do not work with them. Go to the web site and update the firmware and look for the latest drivers for windows 8 64 bit.

Have you considered the duo-capture has a problem?  It didn't work for the other person and maybe its just a defective unit?

Also, check the power supply for the duo-capture.
