  • Unexpected behavior of Input echo buttons

There is an input echo button per track, and also an "all tracks" input echo button in the Mix Module.

I have a mix of audio tracks and MIDI tracks.  I want input echo on some but not all of the MIDI tracks.

The first strange thing is that the input echo button in the Mix Module is on (blue) and will not turn off when I click it. Why?

Also some of the track view input echo buttons will not change state.  The first MIDI track will toggle input echo when I click it, but the others will not enable.

Finally, I notice that the input echo buttons on the console behave differently. They toggle correctly, but the copies of the same button on the track view do not change state.

Follow up - the behavior changes after saving, closing Sonar, and reopening.  Now the Input Echo buttons all seem to work normally, including on the track view.

Please update to the latest drivers and firmware for your sound interface... Cheers.

I'm getting this exact same behaviour in Kingston.

In the track view, sometimes I can turn input echo on and off, most times I can't, only go from on to thru and back.  If I turn all off globally, things may work for a few tries, but as soon as one button goes to "thru" then from then on I can only toggle from on to thru and back, never off.

In the console view, and the inspector, the buttons work ok from on to off and back, but no thru, ever.  If I click to "thru" in the track view, it will show as thru in the console strip and inspector, but never come back once I click on it.  Also, after a few clicks on the same button the track will eventually also become selected.

I've read the help and there's no help to be found there.  Anyone else experiencing this ?

AFAIK, Input Echo thru is used when "Always Echo Current MIDI Track" is enabled in Preferences > MIDI > Playback and Recording. I have that option disabled.

Thank you, Steve.  This was driving me crazy.  It was enabled in my preferences.  I'm not sure I get the behaviour with it enabled, but all I wanted was to turn it on and off so all is well.

Full description of on, off and thru (auto) on p.323 of the Reference Manual and the Help does indeed have it under "The Input Echo button".
