• SONAR
  • Going from X3PE to SPlat Kingston has been the most satisfying upgrade I've ever done (p.2)

I think most of the new features in Sonar Platinum are great.
And the focus on stability and speed is very promissing.
Keep up the good work Bakers!

I know the feeling. I posted a thread a while back talking about how much I like Platinum. It was because it seemed to do stuff without fuss or muss. It just did it. Now it s even better by being faster. That was unexpected. Yes, I am satisfied too. I am running out of things to be surprised about. It seems the Bakers are wizards.

You know what I am very glad you are seeing it the way I see it.  Not because I want consensus but to share the joy.

Hey John ,

Yes , I feel the Joy . I'm seeing a more user friendly GUI as opposed to what I had in X3 .
Currently using 15 inch laptops . I really like what Cakewalk did with the control bar modules (very nice )

At one point in another thread I expressed concern about whether Platinum would run good on my computer .
Noel had mentioned that if I was happy with the performance I was getting with X3  that I would get better performance running Platinum .. OMG , Noel was right
nice rapping with you John .

Bristol_Jonesey
Totally agree.

Funny how some people on Gearslutz think it's nothing more than a toy

Hi Bristol_Jonesey ,

Yes , I'm certainly much happier than I was on X3 ....
note to Kenny , don't say anything about Gearslutz just yet , give it a couple of more posts

thanks

Anonymungus!
I absolutely agree, what we've received from CW this past year is amazing. I imagine it is a high bar to jump over through next year. But I'm rooting for ya Bakers.

The improvements, speed, all the goodies, and the CCC works beautiful as well.  Thanks!

Agree. It is a joy to work with.
Many people on GS seems to think that if it does not have the name "pro" in it, it isn't pro....
All the best.

Hello Ken ,

Yes , there you have it folk's . The Ken's are in agreement . SONAR Platinum is a joy to work with

I too am enjoying Platinum. Working with a desktop, and laptop, that are over 6 years old, and 32bit, I keep expecting my system to break.
It seems as if the code is thoughtfully written. The guru's at Cakewalk appear to make an effort to keep the system requirements as minimal as possible. It's one of the reasons I've stuck with Cakewalk's software since Pro Audio 9 from my Widows98 days.
Cakewalk, and then Sonar, have always been kind to my system. I'm the type of user that has never been able to afford the latest or best hardware, and I always seem to be running at least 3 or more years behind what most users would consider a well spec'd system.

Hello rebel007,

I'm very happy you decided to post what you did

When I decided to go from a Boss BR1180CD to a computer based recording system , I wound up getting my start on a Dell P3 running ME . The Dell was sitting in my doctors  garage on it's way to a charity .
My doctor liked rock music and when he found out I played guitar ,  he would insist on me bringing him demos .
Then he found out that I didn't even own a computer ,so I wound up being the charity
I'm very grateful he did that for me .
I can honestly say that I may have not made it here to become a SONAR user if he did not give me that computer .

Yes, I do get where you are coming from . I feel very grateful myself that Cakewalk has coded SONAR to run as well as it does on such a wide range of systems and specs .
My Win 8 64 machine lives right on the border spec wise .Yet I have seen an incredible amount of new pep and vigor on this computer since I have upgraded to Splat
nice talking with you ,

Kenny

KingsMix
Yeah Kenny,

I felt that way also. I think I came in at Foxboro from X3PE.

Hey KingsMix ,

I'm just starting to find my way around a little bit here and a little bit there in Platinum .
WOW , there are so many new and exciting features .
What a jump it is from X3 to Splat .

It seems okay for people on Gearslutz to give opinions about things they haven't tried. I've seen it with much more than SONAR.

There was a thread on Gearslutz about how Neat mics sounded like crap. Only one small problem...they hadn't been released yet, no one had them except a couple prototypes we had here at Gibson. In that thread, I linked to a video that was done at Gibson with Lindsay Ell singing through one. She sounded fabulous (she does anyway, but the mic didn't hurt, haha). Funny, that killed the thread.

Back to the OP...I think all the fixes and optimizations have made a big difference, but it seems like Kingston jumped a quantum level in that respect. If you're going to go from X3 to a SONAR 2015 version, Kingston would be the one. I think they may have put WD-40 in the code or something.

The Cakewalk forum has consistently been the one forum I can comfortably call Home .

The Gearslutz forum is not within the realm of my home planets orbit gravitational pull  .
...enough said

I have been very excited about what I have found so far in this upgrade .
WOW is an understatement on how much I like what you did with the amps .
When I feel like getting down and playing my guitar I keep going back to them  .
I'm absolutely amazed at the difference in quality and functionality Kingston brings to the table .
It feels very responsive and peppy on my computer . Love the new GUI and how the control section is laid out .
Still have a long way to go as far as auditioning the new features .I have noticed that Kingston itself has a very inviting vibe to it . I don't feel the least bit threatened by it .
FWIW, I wound up putting my Mac's away so I can focus on learning my way around Kingston ...
got one little glitch w my 2i4 it is not a showstopper , other than that everything is way beyond what I had hoped for .

thank you ,

Kenny

Even I, who still finds occasional reason to criticise Platinum, certainly thought it was a giant improvement over the X series!

People on Gearslutz are still citing problems with X1 as the reason why they don't take Sonar seriously. It's kind of like whining about Microsoft Vista in 2015.

@sharke ,

While I'm over here laughing about what you said , there is still a part of me that pines away for my old friend P 5 .
It's all good ,  I'm done screwing around with all the other rebound DAW's  I've courted for now .
Kingston has wiped my tears of sorrow away .

Some of them (especial one ) seem to have dedicated their lives to talk negative about Cakewalk and Sonar......

I'm totally OK with outside this forum online influences being mentioned when it comes to SONAR in this thread.

I had a real hard time sidestepping a lot of the forum discussion that took place here on this forum .
Even found myself participating in a not so gentle way when it came to expressing my views concerning a few changes that have taken place

From my point of view , a lot of the issues that had caused me concern were based on things that were totally out of my control.

All the issues that I have wrestled with here over time on this forum have been laid to rest and I have made my peace with them .
