John
Kenny I just like to see joy in others. After all its why we are all here.

Thank You John
+1, I agree .
Times have changed so much in the last 20 years when it comes to how people make music .
Now we all have our own personal studios however humble or great they may be .
Some of us may work alone a lot of the time .
Joy and Fellowship are really good quality's to tap into and share . For me it helps cut the feelings of isolation .

have a good one.
Anonymungus!
I absolutely agree, what we've received from CW this past year is amazing. I imagine it is a high bar to jump over through next year. But I'm rooting for ya Bakers.

The improvements, speed, all the goodies, and the CCC works beautiful as well.  Thanks!

@ Anonymungus!,

Yes , you have said what I have been trying to say

I worked in a couple of well know NYC music stores back in the day when I was younger . Some of the things I got from back then I've held on to for the past 30 years  .
The gear I didn't keep is priced so high now a days , in my current situation it is simply unrealistic to even try to go there again.

When I think of what came with SONAR , and when I think to myself what it would cost to even try to assemble and buy everything that is in SONAR..
It is obvious to me that  Cakewalk has given me everything I could possibly need to express my musical creativity with the top tier tools they provided  in this upgrade . It blows my head in a real positive way .
If I start thinking about how much work and collective creativity went into all the improvements and functionality of the core program of SONAR . It would add another level of gratitude and awe to blowing my Mind some more .

nice talking with you ,

Kenny

I started on a Boss BR-1180 too. I moved up to a Roland VS-2480 eventually and moved to SONAR from there. The evolution of SONAR Plat has been fun to be a part of. SO many great features added. My favorite might be the Kingston with performance focus. I would like to see that be about 3 times a year event. I could do with out any new features or content 3 times a year. Couldn't be happier with SPLAT. And I agree these Forums are much more well behaved that some of the others.

Look forward to hearing some of your newly inspired tunes Kenny.

Thanks Wookiee

I'm sorry I missed a couple of yours .
I'm gearing up to get back over the songs forum even a listener at this point ...been MIA way too long

Even I, who still finds occasional reason to criticise Platinum, certainly thought it was a giant improvement over the X series!

Well I almost hate to say this ...As good as X3 was , I couldn't seem to bond with it .
I feel a bond with Platinum as I have been spending a few hours everyday diving back into working on my music .

BassDaddy ,

I still have my BR1180CD . I used  it as a pre amp when I was using a PCI sound card .1010lt & 192
After paying 900 bucks for that Bad Boy when it was brand new  , I'm not letting it go for 2 bills on C L

I feel very fortunate to have started Splat with Kingston ...that should keep me busy for a while .
I say that now ...lets see what happens next month .hahah

IMHO, The fights I've seen on this forum remind me of the type of fights that take place in a John Wayne Cowboy Movie  ....
Everybody is throwing punches , all the furniture is getting broken up hitting people  , the whole Saloon is getting trashed to the bone . Then when the fight is over .......everybody is still friends ...I'm cool with that ..

have a good one ,

Nice to see you've had such a good experience with SPlat, Kenny.   Not overly surprising, but still nice!

FWIW, I'm still running a Q9300 w/ 8GB RAM, so I'm all over the performance improvements too.

Hi Steve ,

SPlat is indeed really nice I'm always looking forward to using it .
I seem to have bonded with it much better than anything else I've used in a real long time .
Runs great on my Win 8 computer that started out life with X3 ... Asus i3 w 6GB Ram  .

I'm doing something "a little whack'y " over here .
On Black Friday I picked up a Dell Inspiron 15 w Win 10 64 on it for peanuts ...AMD A6 4 GB Ram
I  needed / wanted a test dummy computer w Win 10 to find out if it was worth it to me to consider going from 8 to 10 . Also I wanted something I could just keep on line ...
Now I would be the first to admit that this cheap a$$ed computer  falls into 2 category's
1 , it's exactly the type of computer that some people here have taken a vow of never ever using for music ever.
2 , it is so far under min spec to run SONAR , why even bother ?

Now here's what I have found out so far for myself at least .
After installing the full installation of Splat Kingston minus Melodyne and Addictive Drums on my Black Friday  Dell computer .
I held my breath for a moment and said OK lets see what happens ....
Hooked up my 2i4 after installing the drivers , set the drivers to ASIO 5 Ms in the Focusrites slider and said OK time to open SONAR ..
I went right to the Showcase -CA-X Amp Platinum .cwt and blew 2 hours blasting away on my guitar  to my hearts content ........not even a glitch.....
The next day on the same computer , I opened up  a couple of mostly audio projects that I had done in X3 on my Win 8 machine ....
I was certainly very surprised when this supposed under spec POS Dell was able to play a couple of X3 projects of mine that had more than 30 and less than 40 tracks ......
FWIW , I do understand most folks around here pay good money to have a stable machine that can pull 100 to 300 plus tracks w plugs and synths  , I have no beef with that and I would like to get there myself

After taking a good close hard look at where I have been at for the past couple of years , I admitted to myself that even on my best day , some of my production techs have been half a$$ed and rather cringe worthy .
So I drew a line in the sand and decided to go into the wood shed and get better at it .
Wound up putting my 2 Mac's and my Win 8 computer away to free myself from all the bells , whistles , plus all the  infinite distractions I have feel victim too .
Cleared a little space for work and study and said to myself OK this little Win 10 laptop runs well enough for you to use it as a study tool  . Why not just go back to the drawing board and start fresh .....
I'm happy I decided to go there , feels like I'm making progress w SONAR . At the very least I'm not repeating the same actions expecting different results
I guess if there was a point to some of this verb age , it would be that SONAR runs pretty smoking performance wise even if it is being forced to run on a way under spec computer .
thanks for listening ,
Kenny

I came to Sonar from FL Studio 12, and even though I only have Professional (hey man, I'm poor and the exchange rate is complete ass, cut me some slack! :P), the performance difference between them when using "heavier" stuff like AD2 and EastWest libraries is like night and day. FL absolutely chugs when I stick an amped up AME2 instance and an AD2 instance in the same project. Sonar? Nope, none of that. :)

I mean, FL's mixer is super easy to use, but a) limited tracks, and b) limited inserts!

Also, I laughed when I read a Sonar announcement thread on GS. One or two people were claiming Sonar is **** and that the CW forums are a circlejerk... while creating the opposite circlejerk and derailing the whole thread just to sling **** at X1 and later as well as people who use it. The epitome of Stop Liking What I Don't Like.

Thanks Kenny,
Hopefully our users that haven't updated yet can see the high level of commitment we've maintained throughout the year.  What's offered all together is really a tremendous value way beyond anything we ever did previously.
Happy to be part of the dynamic/passionate team bringing all these things to be.

I just recently updated myself (from a not much used X3) and I must say that from my point of view, you guys have bent over backwards in the last year to bring Sonar to a level that it has wanted to be since X1.  It has been frustrating during that period to want better and not see it happen, but during the last year it has and it's inspiring to behold.  If things continue on the same track. within a year Sonar will be just about perfect.  I've been a reluctant upgrader until now since I wasn't convinced that it was really worth it but didn't want to lose my 'Producer' status, but going to Platinum K has convinced me that things have changed.  I'm very happy with what I now have and can only look forward to what we'll be blessed with in the upcoming twelve months.  Keep up the good work.  I hope your work environment is as good as what it looks like from our point of view.  You're appreciated.

Hi NebRanger ,

Hey , you got SONAR Professional & FL Studio 12 . That actually sounds like a very potent set up you have there.
With those two combined you can certainly cover a lot of musical ground .
It may interest you to know that there are a few long term SONAR users here on the forum that use both programs as their main DAW's ....

As far as the current versions of SONAR go , what Cakewalk calls SONAR Professional nowadays SMOKES and beats the knickers clear off what SONAR Producer Edition was back in the day when I made the jump from Studio Edition to Producer Edition .
2 years ago when I got X3PE  I picked up  Music Creator 6 to put on my XP computer . Right off the bat I noticed that when I opened up my SONAR 6 PE projects in MC 6 my CPU was no longer in the red ....
I mentioned it online here and people told me no I wasn't imagining things . The audio engine of MC6 was indeed improved over what I was using in SONAR 6 PE and it was based on the  SONAR X1  Audio engine ....

Anyway , it is my understanding that Artist , Professional and Platinum all share the same fundamental core program .When you factor in the monthly updates it is my understanding that all versions of SONAR  benefit equally . This includes all the performance enhancements , tweaks and implemented fixes .

It has been nice meeting and talking with you ,

Kenny

Hello Keith ,

I'm grateful that you would take the time to come over and post a comment in this thread .
Everything you have mentioned in your post  I am in 100% total agreement with ....
I feel that when a person chooses to upgrade , they are not only investing in themselves , they are also
choosing to make it possible for The Creative Cakewalk Team as a whole to continue collectively developing the absolute best product they can be proud of producing .
When I decided to invest in myself and upgrade from X3 to SPlat , it became very clear to me once again how generous and committed Cakewalk as a company is to its SONAR users .

Yes ,  Cakewalk as a company has done wonderful things in the past year .

May the best be yet to come ,

Kenny
