Bose has (fairly or not) a bit of a reputation in the pro audio world for being sort of over-hyped, over-priced consumer-grade equipment marketed as high-end equipment.

It fair and true! Bose is way over priced. Remember the Bose 801s? They were the joke of the industry. They were called harmonic distortion generators.

"Can't hear highs, can't hear lows--must be Bose!"

This thread is still going strong!

I guess Monster has to charge $50 for a 20' cable to pay their legal fees?

A saleswoman once told me that she always bought Monster because of their in-store replacement policy, as she was forever ruining her cables in the studio by rolling over them with her chair. What an awful mess her studio must be!

Having never understood the cable mystique and being too old to worry about what others think of my choices, I buy cables online--whatever's reasonably priced, and preferably on sale!

I bet the folks that run the Red Sox organization laughed their...... well they probably just got annoyed and had a lawyer shoot back a memo squelching it;

I wonder how Musician's Friend would deal with a petition from their regulars--

I know it seems like it should be laughed off but this lawsuit campaign is no joke-- take a look at the disclaimer at the bottom of monster.com. These people are extracting settlements and shakedown money from a lot of places.

Cheers.

No they have this covered by bilking the small entrepreneur out of their money and tying them up in legal BS. I've told every one I can about what Monster is doing to independent businesses to discourage the feeding of a monster (pun not intended).

This started out as a bump, and then I realized that yep and Doc and Jon Dunn have already bumped it. You see, I'm heavily medicated already, and in the last few days I've increased my dosage on the one that makes me sleep all the time and foggy when I'm awake. I thought it was Christmas, so of course the posts from 12/16 were pretty old. Sorry guys.

There should be a warning on this stuff.

Oh, wait -- there is.

Never mind.

Shameless, just shameless Jessie, he he. I wanted to mention an encounter I had with Monster support at the start of 2007 (before I knew about the lawsuits) that was pretty telling. I had called to get some advice on the different grades of cabling since they have what seems like 5 versions of every cable. The guy on the phone really surprised me by telling me what we all seem to know here, that there fundamentally is no difference in the quality of the cables. Believe it or not, he told me to choose the cheaper of the options otherwise I would be wasting my money. Assuming that the 'this call may recorded or monitored for quality assurance' message is remotely valid, this guy probably lost his job but I appreciated the honesty. I haven't purchased Monster product since that time and I haven't regretted it.

This had fallen a bit low on the radar, so I'm bumping it, but with a story.

So, went to GC the other day to take a look at a Blue mic that a buddy said was kinda nifty. It was, but not nifty enough for it's pricetag, but I find it difficult to leave music stores without spending anything. They had some nice looking Neutrik-ended mic cables for a reasonable price, in shorter lengths than normal, so I grabbed them and walked up to the counter.

Chatted with a little boy behind the counter, who asked what I'd be using them for (told him about my studio). Little boy says "Oh, man! You don't want these cheap things! We've got some EXCELLENT deals on Monster going on. Here, let me show you!" and drags me over to the still-overpriced Monster crap.

I politely state I don't buy Monster, and give him my elevator speach as to why, and turn to head back to the counter. He says "Well, I'm not going to let you buy this junk, man. At least, not if you care about what you're laying down! You've gotta have some PRIDE man!"

I stopped, looked at him and said, as clearly as I could "You're right. Never mind. I won't be buying anything today." and handed him the "cheapie" cables, and walked out the door.

What an idiot.

Wow, great story! Funny, I get the feeling that the little boy never caught the real irony of what transpired. Thanks for sharing it with us.
