  • Delay when recording to aux track using external insert - Thought I fixed but didn't

I have an external HW EQ patched into my snare track using external insert.  I set the output to an aux track and then record the aux track in order to bounce the HW patched signal to a track so I can eventually use the EQ on something else.  When the snare signal records to the aux track, the new signal is behind the orginal and I have to manually re-align it.   Anyone experience this and / or figure out how to fix?

I found this in the X2 documentation. It seems that there are some settings for delay compensation.  I have not personally used an external insert.

This article has information that may be relevant, as it deals with using stompboxes with external inputs.

I checked this out, and it looks like there's a record compensation error that's consistently 3x the ASIO buffer size when recording from a Patchpoint with External Insert in the source track. PDC is correct during live playback, and if the EI is on some other track, record compensation for the Patchpoint source is correct. And it doesn't matter how much PDC is being induced by the EI; the record compensation is always 3 buffers short - e.g. 384 samples at 128. Actually this is more like decompensation - later than it would be with no compensation at all.

At least knowing that makes it easy to correct.

Thanks Brundlefly!  I should have stated that the actual playback with the EI is correct and only the recorded signal is delayed.  CAKEWALK needs to look at this as I think patchpoint/aux tracks are going to make using EI usage more prevalent than maybe it was before

You can always do it the old-fashioned way, using real-time (a.k.a non-Fast) bounce to track. There might still be some slight compensation error with this due to hidden latency not being compensated (real-time bounce doesn't seem to pay any attention to Manual Offset for record latency), but that should be less than a millisecond in most cases.

Yea, I was trying to use the direct to Aux because that way I don;t have to turn off stuff coming though the mix bus or solo a bunch of buses but yea, there are other ways to do it and have it match up until this hopefully gets fixed .   When using EI, you always need to use non-fast audible bounce; at least I can't think of a time you wouldn't
