  • How to fresh install Sonar 8.5 on new machine

Hi all,
 
How do I do a fresh install of Sonar 8.5 on a new machine? I purchased 8.5 in the special upgrade deal from Sonar 2.2 in 2012.
 
I re-downloaded the 8.5 file, but when I try to install it, I get a "Cannot locate the required version of the program..." message. So I reinstalled 2.0 with patches 2.1 and 2.2 in sequence. (I've had Cakewalk since version who-knows-what in 1993.)
 
Same message. I've searched for other threads that say 8.0 must be installed -- but I never had 8.0, only the special offer of 8.5 that installed just fine on my previous machine.
 
I don't need any new versions of Sonar, just the basics of version 8.5.
 
Any hints?

I am pretty sure that 8.5 was a download update that required that you have Sonar 8 installed. You will need to find the disc that you used to install 8.0 and install that before the 8.5 download will work.

Without the SONAR 8.0 disks I have no idea how the download upgrade to 8.5 ever worked. The download version of 8.5 always required the SONAR 8.0 disks. The only complete version of 8.5 shipped on DVDs.

Thanks to you both for answering, but 8.0 was not needed. As I said above, 8.5 was offered as an upgrade to a customer with any previous version of Sonar. It upgraded my 2.2 version just fine. And 8.0 is not in my product list, only versions Pro Audio 3, 4, 6 and Sonar 2 and 8.5.

8.5 was downloadable for 8.0 owners, not others. I jumped from SONAR 6 and purchased the 8.5 DVDs so 8.0 wasn't required.

When I got my new computer, I realized that I'd misplaced my 8.5 disks. To my delight, I discovered that I was able to download the full install, which saved my butt. However, the OP may not have the same option, having purchased SONAR as an update.

OP doesn't say if he's checked his CW account.  That would be the obvious first step before contacting CW support.

@JonD, thanks -- I did check my CW account (my second post above). The 8.5 download, all 1.7GB, was there in my account. I downloaded it, ran it, and received the "cannot locate" message. I also unzipped it by hand and ran that with the same result. I have all the products keys.
 
The 8.5 was a promotional upgrade (not an update patch) and was the full install. Waiting to hear from customer service.

I had the same issue, contacted tech support, and the tech I spoke to said he had heard of this issue before.  He immediately sent me an email link to download the proper install files.  Waiting on that email.  Plan B is to purchase an external DVD drive and install using my original DVD set.
