Somewhere along the line, it seems to have been progressive, but has gotten much worse around the time of switching to win10, SPlt began loading excruciatingly slow...several minutes to load a song that loads in under a minute with any of the X versions... I'm adding SSD's as funds allow and do have one on my c drive.

I assume something has gone boinkers with my SPlt and figure it just makes the most sense to reinstall. I'm up to date, running all iterations and am currently on Kingston.

I assume I should just use windows uninstall and then reinstall the latest, Kingston from the command center.

Is this correct?

If there's a preferred approach I'm all ears.  Thanks

Correct, but check the "win 10 slow... " thread below by ScottfromCanada. Some of those posts imply gear without Win10 drivers can throw Win10 into a tizzy.

If you wish to perform a clean re-install here is the process https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013392/SONAR-2015-Clean-Install-Instructions.  If the problem coincided with a Win10 upgrade, I would be surprised if reinstall SONAR makes a difference.

Try Win+R or search for run

It's now located under windows system files...
So everything went quickly... but after reinstalling, SPlat immediately crashes after it loads up a song (the ole, "A fatal error has occurred. Module: C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Sonar Platinum\Sonarplt.exe".   Loads fast... but OY!  I've filled out a fault reporter thingy... going to work I guess.  might be on X3 for awhile.

It all went really quick and seeming to fix the load time... except for the little problem associated with the immediate crash upon seemingly successfully loading songs.

One point I made in the fault report is that, using the knowledge base instructions I could not do this part:
"
  1.
  2. Copy and paste %appdata%\Cakewalk into the prompt and click [OK].
On Windows 8 and 7, the “AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk” folder will open.

  3. Right-click on the SONAR <Platinum/Professional/Artist> folder and choose “Delete.”
     "
...as the folder didn't open; said it didn't exist or something... so I skipped that part.

Will keep muckin' round.  Always have X3 till I sort this out.

I'll now just try and load an empty song...

OK... no crash if I just load up the ol' basic template and create a new song file...add a synth (diva), record a bit, and play back.  Saving and reloading works fine... So, I'll now try and load direct from my songs HD and bypass the start screen...

Success... fantastic... A 76 track very complex, multi Kontakt song which was taking 5+minutes to load before loaded in 15 seconds or so... just amazing.  Plays fine, no crash.

so seems to be a problem in the start screen system since I did the total reinstall.
I can live with that.  The rapid loading is just awesome.  Frackin' amazing...

Any thoughts on the start screen are appreciated but ultimately I'm glad I reinstalled.

update... While having a couple direct from HD songs loaded, I then attempted a start screen load of a song... it did not crash.
wierd... several crashes when first using start screen... but once direct HD loads, start screen doesn't crash... ok, another test of start screen from cold start (reboot first) coming up....

Glad you got it worked out.  I did a clean install of Win 10 and have not had any problems.  I know it's a pain to reinstall your programs, but after upgrading from Win 7,8 and 8.1, I wanted to clean house and start fresh.
