With the addition of Patchpoints and Aux tracks to Platinum, all you have to do is put a Send on the metronome bus to an aux track, and you can record the click. But you do have to do it in real time.

I agree. A "render click" feature is needed. For some weird reason, Sonar is missing a few very simple and useful features present in most mainstream DAWs.

Wasn't this addressed in the recent CA blog post about patch points and Aux tracks?  http://blog.cakewalk.com/...tial-of-the-aux-track/

Yes, a lenghty workaround was offered - direct quote:

Application #1: Recording the Metronome to a Track

Note: If your project already contains a Metronome bus, skip to step 7.
  1. Choose Insert > Stereo Bus to create a new bus for the audio metronome.
  2. Rename the new bus to Metronome.
  3. Choose Edit > Preferences > Project – Metronome.
  4. Select the Recording check box and clear the Playback check box (you will hear the recorded metronome instead during playback).
  5. Select “Use Audio Metronome.”
  6. Click the Output drop-down menu and select the bus named Metronome, then click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.
  7. Click the Metronome bus’s Output control and select New Aux Track on the pop-up menu.
  8. Arm the Aux Track for recording.
  9. Begin recording.

Compare to a one-click "Render Click" command that instantly adds an audio click track to your project, without multiple steps or waiting.

Oh, I see.  You wanted something EASY!  I agree using a "Render Click" command would be more convenient.

I hate click tracks and I hate metronomes. Step sequencer and any drum synth works for me. My standard project template already has Superior Drummer included, so it's just a few clicks to create the click track.

I'm with bitflipper ... but if you want something quick, TTS-1 is quick to set up and light weight.  Make yourself a few MIDI groove clips saved in your media folder.  When you want a click track, insert TTS-1 and drag a MIDI groove clip in.  Stretch it however far you want it to go.  Leave it as MIDI if you haven't settled on a tempo, or freeze the track to get an audio stem.

It's faster than it sounds.

I would love to see a direct audio click track function, maybe even in the 'nome settings.  But in the mean time ...

Why can't you just record one measure of something...rather than the whole song, and then groove clip it out??...or grab a HH loop in the media files, etc   Then drag it out...

I think Cake might have set it up, that you can have a "virtual" metronome anyway...and it gives you the choice of playing it on playback or record ...or both...and then use the fadar for what volume you might want.  Actually no need to record it then..
