I am going to buy a new SSD for my C drive, but have never loaded from the OS up (clean install?). So, I'm in need of guidance. if these questions are dumb, I'm sorry in advance.

Where can I get a step by step for doing this?
Being that W10 was a free download, how would I get it since I have no OS to upgrade from?
Can I load SPLAT on this drive while it's on my current drive?

I'm fairly confident I can do it, but if there's any advice to keep me from making a wreck of it, by all means share... thanks

Actually Win 10 is a free upgrade from an existing installation.

What you're proposing isn't covered directly.

You would have to install a current win 7 or 8 licence on your new sad then upgrade it to win 10. Once that was done you can use a download of win10 used for doing the upgrade to then do a clean installation.

Is this an option for the new SSD build? I have the Product ID from my PC. I really wish I had become a tech - this stuff confuses the crap out of me.

Must I uninstall Sonar on my current drive before I install to the new one? This process may take a good while, and i'd like to still be able to work.

Starting late Nov, you can download W10, make  USB/DVD boot media  and type in an existing Win Product Key during/after a clean install. From the link you posted , click Download Tool Now, run it and follow the on-screen instructions. You can make either USB or DVD. Boot from this to install W10. It is for the most part, a typical
Windows install from here on.  Note that you cannot crossgrade.
If you have the official W7/8 key (from the hologram sticker on the PC), this should all work.

I don't have the W7 key. it was oem from a studiocat purchase. Does my current W10 Product ID meet the criteria? I have been in hopes of finding a guide for Sonar user's to follow from start to finish for a clean  OS and SPLAT install on a new drive. If this all works for me, I am going to document and post my expedition.

No need to uninstall Sonar on existing drive. But you will need to install everything on new SSD.
You may need to deactivate, Melodyne and Addictive Drums. Not sure what each one considers a new installation.

I am confused now, how did you get a W10 Key? If you upgraded from W7 on the PC we are talking about, then rolled back to W7 yes you can use that. The new W10 will automatically activate from the MS database.

Thanks much for the info. I don't use AD.  I have Melodyne editor version, so I'm guessing it will need to be removed as well. Once this drive is up, which drive will be booting?

It's a Product ID - is that the same? 3 groups of 5 numbers, last group of 5 is a Alpha/Numeric combo. I also have a cd key - 5 groups of 5 alpha/numeric.

You don't have to remove Melodyne, just run the updater program and deactivate that PC.
If you cannot do this, just email them and they will remove it for you (it took like 10 mins for me).
You can run Mel Editor on 2 PCs anyway.( I have Editor also).
I think the CD key is the one you want. An OEM license should work since this is what I used.
If you have already used this license to update the PC to W10 (and rolled bacK), this will work too.
If you used this license to update another PC, it will not work for both, at least in the long run.
One license for each PC.
