  • Can't record input from Maschine (2.2) into Cakewalk X3 (x3e)

Hi all, forgive me if this has been covered, I ran a search, but either the search is broken, or there were no topics on this.

Basically I want to record input from my Native Instruments Machine hardware. I am at the point where I can hit drum pads and hear sounds within Sonar, but when I start to record in Sonar, nothing gets recorded.

Has anyone else successfully integrated the two? Thanks for any guidance.

You must set up a midi template in the Controller Editor with the first 16 pads mapped starting from C1, and put the Maschine in Midi Mode. You must then set the Group in Maschine to receive Midi Input on Channel 1 and make it Active. Route a Midi Track in Sonar to Output to Maschine: Channel 1 and you should now be able to record and sequence directly into Sonar with Maschine.

If that's confusing and no one answers by tomorrow morning I'll go more in depth to help you out. I'm not at the computer right now so I can't do it at the moment.

Thank you very much! It's getting late, but I'll give this a shot tomorrow and report back.

Quick followup - by Controller Editor, I assume you mean Sonar's? Native Instruments also has a controller editor...

No not Sonar, Native Instruments.

Thanks FidelityMusic, I'm now able to record pads triggered off of Maschine into Sonar. My next issue, and I've tried a few different ways already, is to record more than 1 sound.

I cloned my midi input track from Maschine, set it to channel 2. I've set Controller Editor with all the pads corresponding to 16 different channels, but whichever pad is active is the sound that's being played. For example, I play a kick pattern. try to go to the next track to record a clap, but as soon as I press the clap pad, the kick pattern is triggering the clap sound.

My apologies if I'm being a complete idiot.

The channel numbers are used to control the entire Group/Kit, so don't set each Pad to correspond to a different channel or else you're going to have the problem you're currently having.

Simply set the first Maschine Group to Input on Channel 1, and set the MIDI Track in Sonar to Output to Maschine on Channel 1. If you set the Maschine MIDI template in the Controller Editor to have your 16 pads trigger notes C1-D#2 you should be able to play and record all 16 sounds through that one MIDI Track in Sonar.

OK, got it, however, what if I want each pad to correspond to a different track? For mixdown purposes, different effect, etc? Thanks again.
