noticed the console control bar displays 'sample rate conversion' when importing audio.
my project has same sample rate as import file so I wondered about it..
changed some settings (sample rate + bit depth) but couldn't get the 'sample rate conversion' away.
not a problem for me but could emagine some studio might want to use some high end converter they bought (I've seen that Sonar conversions are with the best though..).

Does that affect sample rate too, or just bit depth?
 
Anyway, if you want to use a particular flavor of sample rate conversion, you would do that before importing the files into SONAR, and then set SONAR to the same sample rate.

just found out it's my Akai Eie interface, so all looks OK in Sonar X3.
somehow I can't change sample rate of the interface, off to the Akai forum...

No, I was just guessing since he said the project and source file already had the same sample rate that the 'sample rate conversion' message was actually due to a difference in bit depth between the file and the preference setting.

On a related topic, I've been thinking of buying some Vienna Symphony Library sample sets, and they are recorded at 44.1kHz. I like to work in 48kHz...will this cause a problem? 
 
I'm assuming Sonar will convert every sample as I import it. Seems like it would slow things down.
 
The obvious solution is to work in 44.1, but I use a Korg Kronos which I keep hooked up digitally, and iirc it has to use 48kHz.

hey Cat, no won't be a prob, Sonar will automatically convert it to your sample rate, whatever you have set.
and Sonar conversions are rated/tested as one of the best, so no worries.
guess the Vienna samples and your Sonar projects are 24 bit which sounds a hair (or 2)better than 16 bit.

Thats not right. Sample rate conversion is only displayed when the project sample rate is different from the sample rate of the file being imported. Make sure that the project/file is truly at the sample rate you think it is.

Hi Noel, af far as I could check, it did read 'sample rate conversion' even when there was really just a bit rate difference.
But like you mention it could be something wrong on my computer.
