A storm passed through last night and all I get from my MAudio BX5's is a loud roar. (Yes, sigh, everything mass surge protected) I need some recommendations for a pair of powered monitors that's not gonna strip my bank account. Just looking for a good flat response, no frills. Don't need to blast, just normal listening level. Just need to hear the mix without the cans or enhancements. Any advice or recommendation greatly appreciated!!

How much do you want to spend? I like my KRKs.

I take it you don't like the BX5's? They still sell em.

I would recommend
Adam Audio monitors
, take the ones you can afford.
I have been using the A7 since 2008.
but nowadays there are more options for tight budgets: A5x, F5, F7 and even the Artist line.

Thanks guys! I've seen the KRK's but haven't known anyone that used them, that's encouraging.
The BX5s were great but too pricey for me to replace right now.
I couldn't find any prices on the Adam Audio link. I'll google around though.
Thanks guys!

Adam Audio is supposed to be distributed by Guitar Center in the USA but strangely nothing appears.
I would contact:
Mr. Roger Fortier
Tel.: +1 516 681 0690
Email: usa-info@adam-audio.com

Thanks Cedric. I see what that yields.
I found a good price on a pair of Avantone "MixCubes". From what I read they give a good narrow flat sound, which would be great at getting the mix to sound good on today's small speaker systems. Has anybody had any experience with these?

Sorry, Karyn, I would like to stay in the $175-$200 range. I don't have a problem with used. If something will work well, I can hunt for a bargain. I've been off the market for so long I'm not sure what to hunt for. Thanks again for all the response!

You can pickup the 5" KRKs used within your budget (you can almost get them new) but I'm told they're helped by adding a sub (as would all 5" monitors)
I have the 8" and they have plenty of bass response without a sub.
