In my opinion, Platinum was a great choice for 2015. Though many of the new features I have not used, I think that they added a lot of value to the DAW. I am sure I will pay sometime in 2016, but I will wait for a gotta have moment (which comes too frequently). I am sure many will do the same.  Cakewalk has to expect this and is bound to have plans to get us on board. I think Cakewalk's subscription is effectively Cakewalk gambling on theirselves. So far, I think they are winning, but I think the stakes keep getting higher. I hope they keep winning.

This is the best answer I have read on this thread.

You know what John , I honestly wish you did not determine that this was the best answer to a thread you yourself did not start .  As a courtesy  to the OP who started this thread in the first place , should that not be the OP's right and decision ?

Kenny

The OP already gave his opinions on the thread, which is something I wish OP's would do more often. His comment "What I have learned most from this thread is that we all have a unique purpose for this DAW which drives what decision we make" may seem obvious, but it's not. I believe this is particularly true with SONAR, which can be used for so many different applications.

As to judging other posts, I think that's fair game and adds to a thread's value. I don't see anything wrong with someone giving a "thumbs up" to someone else's post...especially when you have a thread this long, and people might be skimming it looking for "nuggets."

It's all good.

I think that Kenny was saying that other than the OP the only ones who can mark a post Best Answer are hosts (because of their super powers) and mods.

I too "vote" that a any host or mod should not "generally" use their powers to decide what is the Best Answer. I feel that is the OPs eminent domain.

But I don't make the rules, I only have to live by them.

And as I have experienced first hand, once a mod/host marks a post (in a thread I started) as best answer I (as the OP) cannot remove that best answer and mark another post as best answer.

It just seems to me that if I do not own a thread (as has been suggested) I should *always* have the privilege  of deciding what was the best answer to my OP (be it a question, thought or plain musing).

No, it is open to anyone to decide that. BTW a thread has no ownership. It belongs to the forum. Each post belongs to the poster that posted it. Often when someone  puts +1 in a post its a form of agreement and liking a post. That has been going on for ever. I have often said similar things about a post. At no time has anyone objected.

I understand what you are saying John up to a point but you are not talking about a +1 when you mark a post as best answer .
As far as I know , a +1 is considered marking a post as helpful
To my understanding once a post has gotten the best answer tag regardless of who tagged it …that's it .
Has that tag now become unchangeable for the duration of the thread ?  Yes ? or No ?

I agree that a host should be able to post their opinion on any post in a thread but if the tagging of a post as "best answer" removes that prospect from the OP then that act appears to be a bit extreme.

how a host would know, unless it's a copy/paste from the manual, what the best answer is, i'm not sure?

Thing I've noticed with Sonar problems, is it seems to be the same people all the time. They don't just have a bit of a bug or glitch one time, but every month there's some problem.

Now it seems to be that there is also a huge group of folks who don't have any serious issues and only an occassional well known problem that gets fixed pretty quickly.

This all tells me that there are folks who just don't know computers as well as they think and their systems aren't as well put together as they think. Under those conditions it's easy for a program to show up deficiencies in a PC. I know because I've been there.

It's easy to blame Cakewalk, but how could it be possible that it's such a bad program considering that the greater number of users, by far, have little or no problems with Sonar.

Couldn't agree more

It is possible that OP marked that post as Best Answer. John seems to have just posted that he thinks that's the best answer.

However, and I know John to be reasonable enough to accept this as being the positive/constructive observation it is, if he did mark it as Best Answer using host powers... well I gotta agree that should be left to the OP.

I didn't even realize hosts could do that but just for the sake of keeping people happy they probably shouldn't. The Helpful button is more appropriate.

JMO for what it's worth... which really isn't much (nor should it be).

Peace.

Hover your mouse over the upper right hand corner Best Answer icon and you should see a "tool tip" that says "by John - 13 hours ago".

Same is true for the orange Helpful icon in the same position on other posts.

Yeah, that's the way I understood it too, Beeps - that John simply considered it the best answer, in his opinion.   As far as the "Best Answer" tag, well, that is a different story..
