  • I purchased MP3 Encoder and Activation in 2012, now I can't use it with Platinum?

I have a MP3 activation file that I purchases from Cakewalk back in August of 2012 for Sonar X1. Upon installing it, it mentioned that I had unlimited use.  So I  was able to use it each time I uninstalled  Sonar and installed the newest version.

Now I have Sonar Platinum and have tried to use the activation file to unlock the MP3 encoder with Platinum, however, it won't work.

Should I be prohibited from using the MP3 activation file I purchased in 2012 with the new 2015 Sonar Platinum?
Am I supposed to purchases another MP3 Activation file from Cakewalk?

Error message:
The MP3 encoder must be unlocked before use.  Please visit  http://www.cakewalk.com to upgrade a previous encoder or to purchase a new encoder.

Yes, I know I can use Lame MP encoder, I've down that with Sonar 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.  I've even written a tutorial about it for the Sonar community years ago which has been documented below.

Cakewalk is there a problem with the MP3 activation application from previous Sonar to Platinum?  Please explain.

Thanks.

I know it's the weekend and you are probably needing to get this resolved now, but this sounds like something that would be easily resolved or rectified by cake tech support. (if patience is possible in the middle of what you're working on of course).

You may have to contact CW about this. You should have the unlock program in your CW account.  It should work. It may be out of date but because you bought it CW will stand by it and issue a new one.

If you originally bought/installed the 32 bit version you have to request the 64 bit version from Cakewalk if you are now running Sonar x64.

This issue has come up a couple of times that I can recall, over the past couple years, and each time - the Cakewalk folks were really good about getting it fixed up.

I bought the Cakewalk version of the encoder many many years ago, and it has followed me forward each time.  I think I had to get an updated/new one when I switched to 64-bit Sonar around the time I went to Windows 7 - 8.5.3 and X1, on through Platinum.

They will get you fixed up.

You might try logging in to your account on the Cakewalk site, then looking at your products list, and download the Mp3Activation.exe program again and running it.

There only seems to be one out there to download, and I deconstructed it to see what makes it tick, and it shows as being 32-bit capable, meaning it will run as a 32-bit program on either a 32-bit or a 64-bit Windows.

I show the current one I am using as being downloaded back in 2012, but I had converted to 64-bit Windows many years prior to that, and this one works, so maybe just downloading a nice fresh copy from the download link for it in your Products list would fix your issues (I hope).  :)

exactly that Robert..all the OP needs to do is re-run the mp3 activation exe again...easy peasy :)

Oh and I have used it for 32bit and 64bit...the same exe file.

There are items missing from my Cakewalk account site that I purchased when I log in.

Several versions of Sonar missing that I purchased between Sonar 4 and Sonar X2.
The MP3 activator is gone, But the MP3 encoder is still there.
My Project 5v2 is missing
Some older Instruments I purchased.

All ll of these download files I have saved on a backup drive over the years, but they are missing from my downloads list on the Cakewalk site..

I've written to Cakewalk about the missing items and the MP3 activation file I that isn't working any longer.
