Would someone who had the new start up menu fixed via clearing the start memu cache please see if you could reproduce this anomaly.  Start a new project by bypassing the new start menu and using the file/new method, i.e. the old way of doing this.  Record only audio tracks. Shut down Sonar (note that I am using Jamaican Plain) and restart Sonar.  When I do this my new start menu is blank!  Clearing the cache restores the new start menu so this is not a showstopper but it is an annoyance.

This has happened the last couple of times that I have done this.   Note that I have not tried this with MIDI tracks yet.

Also note that I use the old method as it produces a project folder whereas the new start up menu does not.
 
I would like to verify if this is just my system or do others have the identical problem.

You remember that previously I sent a post describing exactly the same problem.
Ater 4 o 5 sessions I have to erase the start cache.
I really did hope that Kingston could resolve this annoyance, but Kingston keeps on to mantain this issue.
I think that CW is not really interested to solve this kind of problem.
 

I saw your handle and was gonna test it for you (you seem like a cool, wacky dude) but I don't actually have a version of Sonar with the new Start menu installed yet... and I'll probably disable it as soon as I do because of the "phone home" crap.

The above statement is a little concerning. So the Start Menu is forcing new projects into the Global folder? That should be reported or maybe check the release notes/eZine for Kingston to see if they fixed it. I would expect more reports though if the Start Screen was overiding PPF settings.

I think there is a little misinformation going on here. To my understanding there is no "phoning home". What the start screen can do is inform the user of new things from CW. One needs to go to that section to see it. I really don't think CW is in any way interested in your projects unless you have a problem and then they may ask you to send them the troublesome project for testing. You have to contact them about that.  
 
The start screen is nothing more than a listing of recent projects with some added file handling ability. Its based on the old one but with more functionality. 
 
Also the reluctance some users are showing on this forum to install the latest version is puzzling. With the ability to roll back encase a problem occurs one is protected from any problem that may arise. Plus you have the best version available. Even if some report a problem its highly unlikely that the problem will impact you.
 
 
CW works very hard in providing these updates to us on an accelerated basis. Some of us refuse to take advantage of it for reasons unknown to me.   
    

Gotta disagree, John. The Start Screen reaches out to the internet to snag "news" and "tips" and whatnot. That's kind of the definition of "phoning home".
 
Fortunately it can be disabled by turning off the start screen but I would prefer to be able to turn it off WITHOUT turning off the start screen.
 
As far as not hopping on updates immediately? Well that's a pretty easy one to figure out. Sometimes things get broken and can affect work in progress. For those with CCC installed not such a huge deal I guess BUT I (and others) don't use CCC specifically because that is a TOTAL "phone home" scheme... and itself has some silly stuff going on.
 
Not trying to give you hard time (obviously) but those are good reasons based on how it all works (particularly for us offliners).
 
These aspects of the new model are indeed things I do not like... at all. But at least they can kind of be avoided without losing crucial functionality.
 
Many other companies do not even provide that so although I don't like it I'll commend Cake for at least giving us an "opt out"... even if it is a bit of a futz around.

I like them as CW has done them. In other programs I can see the reluctance. CW's version is benign. It wont cause harm.

Yes, may not solve the Start Screen Dilemma but *may* allow you to use the VM for running CCC (somewhat safely) and if that VM gets corrupted in any way, blow it away and restore it. They say that way the "DAW install" is never corrupted.
 
I'm an onliner so I cannae say if it's true. But since you can declare where CCC does it's installs from it seems like that "isolates" the VM form the true OS install.

I do alright as is and as I said I was very happy that Cake allowed us to do the offline install. No problems with that actually and really I'm not a TRUE "offline" installer.
 
I just only connect when there is something I want and download direct from my account... just like I used to. No need for the CCC and it's "helpful" behavior.
 
I ain't smart... but I know what I want, what I don't and where I do (and do not) want it on my system.
 
As far as the rollback stuff it seems like you can just install an old exe over a new one without really any trouble. I download them all so I can do that if need be. I also create restore points before installing pretty much anything so can rollback completely if it comes to that.
 
The way I'm rolling though... which is uber caution/paranoia/laziness has been working fine. I'm probably gonna hop on Kingston and just leave the Instrument updates alone.
 
I do however want to play with wacky VMware but that's another adventure.... lulz!
