  • Will BandLab make a deal with NativeIntruments so their hardware gets support?

I was in contact with Native Intrumets and they say that Cakewalk by BandLab is not supported from them. They (at least the servise worker i talked with) consider CbB a new DAW.
It would be great to also get full support of their hardware as Sonar didn't have. There was some functions missing.

I would guess that according to their compatibility qualifications, they need to do compatibility testing on CbB. Now, 99.9% of us here know that's unnecessary and that CbB pretty much has the same code as Sonar Platinum, but that's their policy. As for incompatibility, what have you experienced? I have NI Komplete 11 and can run everything just fine.

It is the Komplete Kpntrol S61. It does not show any info on its screens when using CbB. Same with Sonar and Studio One.

This is a bit hacky, but maybe worth a try if you're feeling brave...

I suspect the Komplete Kontrol software is querying the name host application to see if it's supported.

If it's just by filename, you could try:

go to C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Core

Copy cakewalk.exe

rename the copy to SONARPLT.exe,  then run that.

If this doesn't work, I guess you need to find a resource editor to change the details of the exe to match what SPLAT was.

So:  Filename:  SONARPLT.exe
       Original filename: SONAR.exe
       Product Name: SONAR Platinum

I think no plugins/VSTi's company has fully supported "Cakewalk by Bandlab" as of yet.
All the ones I've seen (Celemony, iZotope, etc..) still list "Sonar" as a supported DAW, but not the aforementioned.

Mind you, it is likely just a matter of time. They might not want to spare resources at the moment towards testing a DAW that, informally speaking, only changed it's name.

It remains to be seen how popular SONAR will become. Those of us who have put $$$$$ into Cakewalk products over the years will be flabbergasted if it does not become a major force in the universe at the new price. On the other hand I recall a friend who was selling a litter of puppies for $1500.00 a piece. When I asked her why so much, she told me "No one would take them for free."

If SONAR does become a major player, then it will be in the interest of ancillary suppliers of software and hardware to prioritize testing and coordinating SONAR compatibility.  That is after all how they sell their stuff.

That part about the danger if it is free, is really true. But I think that this also is a marketing thing. Not only by BandLab, but us too. Most of us have more than one DAW installed. I have CbB, Sonar, Studio One and Cubase Pro. But I am using CbB now. We don’t need to convince our musician friends that CbB is the only one. That is almost impossible. But we can convince them that they can try it out for free. It is not going to stop working after 14 days. And if you don’t like it as your main DAW it is useful as a second DAW or third or forth. Why? Because, if someone using this software wants co cooperate on songs, it is much more convenient to use the same DAW.
