You should be able to assign a controller to an automation envelope in one step and draw the envelope with the controller during playback. Simple as that, yet we're screwing around with ACT and all of its horrible bugs and quirks.

Well here's egg on my face. It has been brought to my attention that you CAN do exactly this, and I was just too much of a dumbass to work it out. You just right click on the fader in the automation lane of whatever synth or effect parameter you want to control, and the Remote Control option is right there. It's a simple matter of selecting Controller in the Remote Controller dialog and clicking Learn to map the controller. From there you can just write enable the lane, start playback and twiddle away a controller performance to your heart's content. Can't believe I was goofing around with the monstrosity that is ACT to do this kind of thing with effect parameters before. Sorry Cake!

It's not so simple for plugs w/ a non-trivial number of parms.

True, but how do other DAW's handle the mapping of controllers to synths or effects with hundreds of parameters? The main problem I have with automation in Sonar is that the edit filter label on each automation lane is way too short and does not show nearly enough characters of the parameter name. It means that if you're automating  a large number of parameters on a synth, and loads of those parameters start with the same few characters, you can't distinguish one automation lane from another. Even if all the names are different the size of the edit filter label still show enough characters to be a meaningful parameter name. Little things like this need fixing pronto - I can't imagine it would be that hard for them to make such a small but invaluable change.

One other thing which makes dealing with huge menus of parameters (or huge menus of anything) in Sonar is that they haven't yet seen fit to give us modern scroll wheel enabled menus. You either have to click the stupid little arrows or use the cursor keys. This annoys me every friggin' day!

Well rolling updates are back: A lite version of Rapture Pro and more Style Dials. I can hardly wait.

Rapture Session is an easy to use synth powered by the amazing sounds of Rapture Pro. It comes with hundreds of our favorite hand-picked sounds and curated in a simple design. Quickly search and preview different sounds from realistic pianos to soaring synths.

Well lets just hope that these 'Hand Picked" sounds actually produce sounds, because there were, and by all accounts still are factory Rapture Pro content which fails to be audible. I say 'by all accounts' because it is from what I have read, I gave up on Rapture Pro long ago, after it's pitiful release state, and after several months and 2 subsequent updates, is still sub par.

Hey, here's an idea, how about actually fixing Rapture Pro before taking off on this 'little' adventure ? or is the idea to scale Rapture Pro down so it's issues are less apparent, and maybe require less to fix ?

One thing that's been been requested here in the Feedback Loop is a text search for the parameter list.

I agree that the initial release of Rapture Pro was a bit of a sorry mess.

But since the updates it works perfectly and I've never come across any inaudible patches, so maybe you should revisit it

yeah, although i expect there'll be bugfixes as well, marketing should really be keeping/pinning something new functionality-wise visible in the rolling updates/next up page

RPro works seamlessly here. I may encounter once in a while a program that doesn't sound right, but it's usually due to some FX are maxed out, so it's very easy to fix.
I really hope that a forthcoming Rapture Session will include properly mapped macros for the CSS and other legacy libraries.
I also hope to see the upcoming updates in MC7. Wanna start using it for my music class.

I do not know what other DAWs do, the way I do this:
1. Touch the parameter in the Plug-in GUI (since I am going to change it, I have no problem to modify it a bit at that step).
2. Press a Button (on surface) to "Learn" that parameter
3. From that moment, I can use my Encoder/Fader/Knob (on surface) to change that parameter (write automation if required, it will be auto-created)

I prefer that over:
1. Add automation lane
2. Select required parameter from the long list, even in case it has filters and scrolls
3. Open remote control assignment, learn the control, confirm.
Especially in case I just want temporarily control the parameter.
