  • Upgrade X3 to Professional: Projects don't open because "Can't load Module."

Hello everybody,
I just bought SONAR Professional to upgrade from my old SONAR X3 version.
I installed the new version, the installation seemed to work fine and I can open the program but:

When I try to open an old project I keep getting the following error messages (it is always the same wording, just different module names at the end):

"Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\BitBriedge...
Can't load Module. 'KDL GuiFloat2GuiFloat'"

I can click on "Okay" to close that message but there are literally a hundred of them. So I am occupied for quite a while until the project finally opens (and if I click to fast SONAR crashes).
When I am done with all these messages the project opens and looks okay, at least I can't see no fault or limitation.

Here are some thoughts I had:
When I made the installation I chose an option saying something like that the old configuration and settings from the old X3 version are copies to the new version. Perhaps something got mixed up here?

When searching for a solution I thought I might look for some .ini file to see if there is a wrong path for "Shared Utilities" but I couldn't find the right .ini file. My first try was to look at Preferences > File - Initialization File, but there is just a blank field and no info.

As regards those missing modules I never heard of any of them and I am not aware what they do. As I said there are about a hundred. For the first four I took a note and it said "KDL GuiFloat2GuiFloat'", "dd_MouseHide", "RMS detector with attack & release control" and "DAV Lightweight Filter Lowshelf".

So far, I only installed the main setup file "SONAR_Professional_UP10_Setup_21.10.0.30.003.exe" but no additional add-ons. In my old SONAR X3 I had an installation that included all the extras that were bundled with the setup file, just in case, this could be important!?

Unfortunately, that error message doesn't show the full path of the problems origin but only this part: "Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\BitBriedge...". When I check I see I have two "Shared Utilities" directories. One is in the 32bit version of "program files" and the other one in the 64bit version of "program files". The only thing I changed in any of them, is that I included some lame codex in the 32bit program files.

I hope this is an annoying but not to complicated problem (otherwise the whole installation would be useless).

Can anybody guide me into the right direction:
What are these modules? Where are they supposed to be? Where can I change the path to the correct one?
Or what else should I do?

Thanks a lot,
Steffen

Have you tried opening the file in safe mode, hold down shift and then click on the project to open.  It will then ask if you which plugins to load.

The file you quote, Can't load Module. 'KDL GuiFloat2GuiFloat'", looks like it belongs to a softsynth is that the case?

I would also just start SONAR without opening a project and check in the Utilities > Plugin manager to make sure all your plugins are listed.  It sounds like you may have not got all the plugin paths listed there.

A new problem:
I have kept the old X3 version and when I open that, it now shows the same error message. The pop up is a bit wider so I can read a little more: "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared Utilities\BitBridge..."
So it could refer to the Bitbridge.dll or the Bitbridge.exe in that directory.

I just tried that. If I do not open any of these plugins, I don't get that error message either. So there is some kind of connection. But I don't know which of the plugins might be the culprit. And not opening any of them is, off course, not a solution ;-(

I don't know what these modules are or where they belong to. I never heard of these names.
The plugin manager lists lots of plugins. It looks "normal" but I don't really know where I had to look closer..

Bitbridge is a shared utility. The files in the "Shared Utility" directory are used by all versions of Cakewalk DAWs installed on the PC.

Bitbridge is loaded when 64bit SONAR encounters a 32bit VST plug-in. There is a problem with one of plug-ins in the project. It can be isolated by loading the project in safe mode, as mentioned above. To load a project in safe mode, hold the SHIFT key while loading the project.

Old 32bit plug-ins can be a problem in 64bit hosts. Some solutions are
1) Upgrade to the 64bit version of the plug-in,
2) Find a replacement 64bit plug-in,
3) Use jBridge instead of BitBridge and
4) Run the project in 32bit SONAR.

All of what Scook says above is of importance.

When I Goggled 'KDL GuiFloat2GuiFloat'  I found references to Synthedit and to float re-scalers are any of your synths built on synthedit?

You can of of course open in safe mode then load each plug in turn until you get the error, I know laborious but it may find the troublesome plug.  You can then load in safe mode again loading all the plugs until you hit the known plug skip that one then remove it from the project once loaded and re-save the project less the troublesome plug.

Hi again,

I did as you explained and found three plugins that are causing me trouble:
  • 10 band graphic eq
  • third bass
  • positron
But now I have a new problem.
When I had found out who the three were I wanted to avoid the whole scenary (opening file, getting error message and keep clicking them away) for 10 different projects so I just erased the files from my plugin folder and rescanned the plugin folder.
That worked first. I got a message that plugins were missing, opened the project and erased them.

But when I did that for the "10 band graphic eq" I had an instant crash with a new error message saying that the "Teleport server was not responding". I tried a couple of times, always with the same result.
Then I decided to go back and put the erased plugin back in its plugin folder and rescanned again but nothing changed: Now the programm immediately crashes with that Teleport Server error message.

Teleport Server is Bitbridge.
Do the projects generate the error in safe mode?

It almost seems like Bit Bridge re installed itself with the new version but has become corrupted.
Not sure if there is a way to download and re install Bit Bridge, but that might work. You may have to re install Sonar to jog it to life. Possibley your download was corrupted?? did you check against those hash mark thingies?

I agree with Cactus music re run the installers.
