  • Latency with DXi soft synths on Sonar X3 [Solved]

Hi

I am having an issue related to latency with DXi soft synths on Sonar X3.

It's happening that when I make Tempo changes on a project the soft synth's latency increases when I play notes on my midi keyboard. This happens mainly when the Now Time is next to the tempo change, and the project is not running.
Also sometimes, the latency is so long it seems midi is not working.

Otherwise, the same doesn't happen when the project is being played or recorded. In this cases the midi controller works properly and there's no latency, and it's also a way to take the midi sounds back, playing notes on the controller.

I've checked it with Music Creator 6, but the bug doesn't occur.
Also the issue doesn't occur with VST soft synths.

If someone could help I'd appreciate.
Thanks.

Best regards

Hi

I'm sorry to insist on with this issue, but I've seen on Wikipedia that DXi soft synths were created in partnership between Cakewalk and Microsoft ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX_plugin#Types_and_compatibility ).
Maybe this could be related do DirectX version on Windows 10? (Despite I've checked DirectX effects and they seem to be OK).

I also installed Sonar Artist demo version, but the issue continues.

Thanks.

X3E?
Have you performed a VST reset then a rescan in Sonar preferences?

Hi, Doktor

Yes, my Sonar is X3e. I reset the VST plugins and re-scanned them, as you suggested, but still didn't work. Thanks for your response.

I’m using some VST plugins like Sound Center and SI, until I can get DXi synths working.

Thanks!

DX plugins do not need to be scanned. There should be no difference in latency using DXis or VSTis. For lower latency lower the audio buffers on your audio device. If its ASIO there should be an app for it that will allow one to adjust those buffers.

Actually I've seen a few threads where a VST reset resolved the issue, sorry it didn't work this time.

I don't see how Alex. Keep in mind Sonar didn't have a VST scanner when it was using DX plugins only.

Well that is what you would assume. Nevertheless the threads are out there if you google. Suggest we move on with the thread...

Hi, thanks for the responses

Referring to latency, I'm using Behringer ASIO Audio Driver. I tried to change the latency via the driver's control panel, and I felt it improved a bit. But on general the delay when I play notes on midi controller is between 2 and 7 seconds, when the Now Time is next to a different Tempo change (it works fine when Now Time is at the beginning).

Also there's a fact that recently I raised latency a bit because some midi notes played on real time were not ending, like a sustain, which forced me to reset midi signal via controller. But the change I made was from 30 to 49 ms of latency output, which helped to stop sustain notes when playing.

I also don't remember when this issue started, as before I was using Windows 8.1, two months ago. I didn't notice this issue at that time.

Thanks

2 and 7 seconds is horrendously long for latency. Its measured in ms (milliseconds) not seconds. You may have misspoken. If not than you have a real problem.
