I have a first generation Yamaha 01v that I've been using in my home studio that's starting to age out. Besides a channel that's died and various buttons that are starting to not make contact the way they should...there's the issue of AD/DA converters that are very much old school. I'd like better converters and pre-amps, but I still like the idea of a mixer in the studio for zero latency monitor foldbacks with "confidence" fx's for the talent.
I've been looking at the newer generation of live mixers, but most of them now have a fixed sampling frequency. I'd like the option of using 88.1 or 96 kHz. (I don't see much use in going any higher than that.) But I
do want something that'll give me closer to 24 bits of actual headroom.
The only thing I've seen that will fit in my rack (oh yeah...it really needs to be rack mountable) is Yamaha's 01v96i, which happens to be selling at B&H for $1,500! That's probably because even the
new version is freakishly old in the tooth.
Is there something else out there that's more up to date that would fill this bill?
