just got a new laptop with win10. Need to know what win10 optimizations are needed to make this thing work. It is a quad core 3.2ghz HP pavilion with an A10 processor. 12G memory and 1TB drive. I like it so far. I have disabled Cortana and removed McAfee. What other suggestions do you have?

If you have pro straight to wondows update advanced and tick the slow path option. There are so many optimizations (startup, services, task scheduler etc) probably best to google. Then you might want to look into the privacy side of things.

When you are all done download the latest latencymon, also I recommend process explorer and process monitor. Avoid reg cleaning software.

Oh and update your display adapter driver straight away as well...

Cheers

I ended up taking it back. There was no way to boost the CPU to the 3.2 It was stuck at 1.8   smh...

Budget laptops just don't work for DAWs.

Right click on the windows start button. Go to the Device Manager page and dis-able the internal sound card then in system devices dis-able the High Definition Audio Controller! This is an absolute must for lowest possible latency with your audio interface.

I never pre-optimize. Install it and see how it does. If there are issues I then have something specific to optimize for. That's just me though.

Hmm how do you do specific optimization? It's all about reducing cpu cycles. Whether it be continuous or in bursts.. I've never perceived a taeget to optimize for (latency monitor does give pointers though).. It's generally a blanket coverage thing.
