I have new information to share, still quite puzzling. I've run a few experiments. This problem has occurred suddenly, as I recently (Nov 18th) downloaded the Sampletekk Grand Piano, which had 14 .rar files of 600MB each.I also downloaded and installed a brand new version of Finale with no problem. It did not take long, considering the amount of files downloaded. So fast forward to Nov. 25th, when I learn that the Kingston update is available. That's when the problem started, first in CCC, where I couldn't get any of the available updates to download. Finally got Rapture Session to load, but only the factory content, not any of the add-on sound banks, as of yet. I was able, with lengthy delays, to get one of the two Kingston files (the smaller one with plug-ins only, I believe, about 22 MB to download, doing this from within my account section on the web. All else has failed. Thinking that it was a unique problem to CW servers, I purchased two products from Orange Tree Samples, and tried to download them, but had the same issue on their servers as well. So now I'm thinking it's my computer. Tried a few more things, to no avail. Then went to my downstairs computer (a MAC) and tried to download both cakewalk and the OTS instruments, and could not do it--impossibly slow download followed by a time-out network failed message. So now I'm wondering if there is somthing wrong with my router, but yet my internet speed download and upload are at least 18-35 MB each way, according to speedtests on a couple of different sites, and my browsing experience is fine. I even tried to re-download Finale, and this was slow and quite on me, too. However, I went back and was easily able to download a 600 MB .rar file from the Sampletekk site with no problem. I have downloaded a couple of large .exe files from the web, too with no problem. At this point I am thinking that there is some sort of bottleneck on the server end of the more popular musical sites, such as Cakewalk, Finale, and OTS. I don't want to purchase anything else from Native instruments just to test it out until I figure out what's happening.
So at this point--it's not that I cannot download anything, it's just from certain sites, the ones I most want to use at the moment. And because it's Black Friday, it is possible that there are just too many users in my neck of the woods (Massachusetts) trying to download simultaneously. I know that seems strange given it's now been a couple of days since the release of Kingston, but I think I will just see how this plays out in the next few days--perhaps after Cyber Monday. Since I am able to download other large files from other sites of similar types, I have to conclude that it is beyond my control and eminates from the servers from the popular companies. But I won't know for sure for a while to really test this hypothesis further.
I have made no other changes to my music computer, which is dedicated 100% to only music--I use my Mac for other stuff, and that computer has the same exact issue. In a way, it's almost fascinating to me, but unfortunately a gigantic waste of a long weekend.
