I finally got my media box to upgrade to X3 (I downloaded it a week ago, but as usual, got file errors like I always do from the CW store). Anyway, a quick install needing only the first disk since most of the stuff was already on X2a. I have a few questions about this, but I'l  keep them as separate as I can.

During the install, I noticed the file being installed for Melodyne included iLok files for it. So as soon as it was finished, I went to the control panel and un-installed the programs associated with it.
(Please don't try to convince me that any form of iLok is okay, I absolutely refuse to have anything on my system that uses it or PACE for its purposes.) My questions are;
1. Is there anything else ready to sneak iLok/PACE in X3 that some of you could inform me about?
2. What software is comparable to this Melodyne that doesn't use any form of iLok?
3. Do I really need it anyway?

There is nothing else comparable to Melodyne in the way it handles pitch correction etc. Melodyne also allows a challenge response for authentication. Check the Celemony site to confirm

Sonar and Melodyne do not require a iLok dongle. Not sure what is troubling you about those files, but no actual iLok is involved.

ILok is an optional method of authorisation fro Melodyne. I use it for my version as I do for any of my software that gives the iLok option like iZotope does now.

The problem I've had with iLok/Pace has been that it uses background services to run continually for it. No dongle was required there either, but I find that an unnecessary waste of system services (and intrusive). I'm trying to find out more at Celemony now, but would like to have anything that refers to iLok to be completely removed and am hoping that the C/R uses a different method than the iLok manager. If it uses it then it still is iLok.

Just don't install the iLok drivers during the installation.

iLok is purely optional for if you want to use a lot of different computers and take your license with you. The "normal" challenge/response still gives you two authorizations, e.g. for your desktop and your laptop. If you are planning to get a new computer make sure to unauthorize the old one and you get yoir authorization back to use again.

iLok is just an additional option for those who wish to use it. (You don't have to).

As for the file errors that you "always get" by downloading from CW.... also completely avoidable.  You clearly are not using a download manager.  They are freely available, and any decent one would prevent the file corruptions.

I'm not finding where I can 'uncheck' that option during installation yet.
More detail?
Thanks.
