It would be nice if Sonar came with a drum sample player like NI Battery or the Ableton Drum Rack. It wouldn't have to be as fancy as Battery, just something you can use to map drum samples to MIDI notes. Of course, fancy works too.
This is one feature that Sonar is missing relative to most of the DAWs that all the kids are using.

It's not the same. I've tried to use Session Drummer for that purpose, it sorta works but it's really limited.
You need a pad grid.

Sonar already comes with 100's of one shots and drum samples, categorized even. It would probably be pretty easy to code the browser to give you a list of kick samples or a list of snare samples etc. The hardest part would be the sample player but I suspect that the Cakewalk folks might be up to that task.

No beatscape here, apparently it's been discontinued. Yes, something like beatscape would be fine, especially if you can add rows.
Aesthetically though, the rows could be a bit more utilitarian. It doesn't need to look like a drum machine or an APC, it just needs to tell you what the pad is going to play and the note.

neither SD3 or Beatscape are even close to MPC style drum sample machines.  Both have their pluses but anyone wanting an MPC like experience will be VERY disappointed.  I use SD3 at times but there are better 3rd party options.  I use Geist for that.  Other similar options are Groove Agent by Steinberg and a bargain option is Posie,m which is only $49

What about Project 5 Velocity. One of my favorites from P5.

2p says Boston could knock this off in a sprint or two.
