I have an FTP and it seems pretty good, but I also have a GR-55 and prefer the gtr-to-midi on that to the FTP. That's a question of setup though. Since I already have a system set up and working I haven't spent the time to nail down the FTP set up. YMMV. The Boss GP-10 is about $100 bucks more than the FTP, but has some nice features.  The wireless aspect of the FTP is nice. Have you checked out VGuitar Forums? You'll find a lot of comments/info there.

I couldn't tell from this thread if you've played midi guitar before. If not, just an FYI, it's really a different instrument - you need a very clean playing style and good palm damping technique is helpful.

I have used the FTP with Rapture. I like rapture, but tend to use Omnisphere for synth and Alchemy for a sampler. I've used it with Z3ta+2, I have the full version of Lounge Lizard and have used it with that as well as some of the Korg synths - the wave station & M1. Reaktor is nice. Guitar synth in general is a lot of fun. The Boss SY-300 looks like it will be fun, but that isn't guitar-to-midi.

Most of the stuff I record I use guitar synth on.

Anything besides drum & guitar is guitar synth, but not necessarily guitar-to-midi, I favor the vg-99. All the bass is vg-99. Everything is recorded in some version of Sonar ...

@rsinger - cool tunes

My experience with guitar-MIDI is what I've done today with a BOSS  GT-001.  Very limited, but decent enough to get a feel for it and make me want more.

So you have a GR-55 ... are you driving that with a GK-3?  Is it possible to NOT use the Roland synths and use a GK-3 like the FTP to drive softsynths?

This is a great thread for me, as I got a new Triple Play at a store clearance sale. I am just finishing up rewiring my whole set up, so I haven't installed yet. I am looking forward to it after all this feedback!

I use either a gk-2 or Godin LGXT or ACS. For new hw you would need a Roland or Boss synth with gtr-to-midi or for used hw you could use an older Axon model (their latest is now FTP).

Roland by-passes MIDI when you play their synths, this is how they dealt with latency. The hex PU is connected directly to the synth. It was and still is the best solution.   My old GR 50 is probably as fast as it ever got, but if you use the midi output, the added latency was disappointing.   Therefore I'm stuck in the 80's with GR 50 synth patches. :(

I just want to be able to have it set up on a spare guitar and use it on a few songs live.
I might look into finding a second hand Newer Roland pedal board system. I sort of always put a price on what I'm willing to pay for luxury items. A midi guitar falls under that category for me. My price is under $300.

$250 for the triple play?? you say?? ,,, , But I see they are $400 on most sites.
I guess one can keep an eye out for a sale.

Should be easy to get from MF for $340 during one of those "call us for a coupon" campaigns  :)

Yes, that' possible, But for me $340 becomes over $400 Can. from them ( MF)  because they charge outrageous exchange rates, shipping and handling.
I added a $99 item to my cart and at check out it was $156 Can. ground shipping.
Sweetwater or Tom Lee Music does not add handling and often has free shipping deals.

Sorry ... didn't know your locale.  I do like sweetwater.  If I'm buying a guitar online because nobody has one in a shop, I go to sweetwater.  Plus they throw candy in the box

My second choice is a semi-quasi-local music store.

For other things I can't touch in a store before purchase, I tend to go with GC/MF.  I know they've had a bit of bad press lately, but I've always had good experiences in their stores and online.  I used to love MF when it was the retail side.

Remember Mars Music store? I've gotten practically 70% of my gear (that I still use.....including an original Mesa Boogie Blue Angel amp) from them.
