Last week, Frontier Design, the makers of the AlphaTrack and the Tranzport, posted a new driver for the AlphaTrack that supports Windows 7. Go to http://www.frontierdesign.com/Products/AlphaTrack/Downloads   There is an optional install for DAW modules, including one for SONAR.

The Tranzport, another great little device, has been discontinued, and I wonder what will replace it. At least it works fine under Windows 7 as-is.

Either one makes a great addition to a small studio using SONAR.

I had to disable all of the applets that run on the taskbar or it would crash Win 7 (64) when I shut down the machine.

Maybe I'll give the Alphatrack another try.  It works fine without the little helper program but I like the added convenience of it.

The Dakota driver 3.15 also crashed with Windows 7RC on shutdown. I hope they update this driver also. I'm waiting for a while to move to Windows 7... XP is dialed in and humming along.

if I am correct, the Tranzport driver needs to be installed Right-click Vista compatible, correct? and then MSCONFIG disable its startup driver. and you must disconnect the Tranzport receiver before system shutdown to avoid a BSOD....?

For the Tranzport, Win 7 x64. What I did:

Unpack the transport driver package onto my desktop (so I can find it).

Plug in the receiver.

Go into the device manager and "Update driver", select "have disk", browse to the driver on the desktop. Install. I don't recall doing anything besides that, maybe answering yes to a "Trust unsigned" requestor.

There is a known issue with x64 where the receiver needs to be unplugged when windows is shutdown, otherwise there is a BSOD. So instead of having it plugged in the back of my PC like it used to be, now I plug it in the front USB.

I've had no issues besides that.

The Frontier guys say the x64 BSOD thing is something they will not be fixing, just unplug instead.

Good luck.

This is the Dakota Control Panel applet that is crashing.  The fix is to go into msconfig and disable it from the start up sequence.

If you need to make a change to the Dakota, open the Control Panel from the Windows 7 control panel and then close it when you are done.

I had installed the Tranzport under Windows 7 32-bit just as Mrfitz said.  No problems.

Datadog,

I'm looking to put a couple Dakota/Montana cards onto a modern motherboard with an i7.  That MB you have in your sig has only 2 PCI slots (as far as I can tell from the pictures), also it is a LGA 1366 board and doesn't support either a i7 920 nor 6GB.  Since you apparently have multiple PCI devices (2 for the Frontier Designs and at least 1 each for the UD-1 card/s) I'm having to think that you have not updated something in your sig.  Do you in fact, have an i7 MB that will support a 920 and at least 3 PCI slots?  If so, what is it?

Thanks in advance,
