The Dakota driver 3.15 also crashed with Windows 7RC on shutdown. I hope they update this driver also. I'm waiting for a while to move to Windows 7... XP is dialed in and humming along.
This is the Dakota Control Panel applet that is crashing.  The fix is to go into msconfig and disable it from the start up sequence.

If you need to make a change to the Dakota, open the Control Panel from the Windows 7 control panel and then close it when you are done.
Dave,

Are you saying that the Vista WDM/ASIO drivers ARE compatible with Win 7?  Is that 32- or 64-bit Win 7?  However, if it is only the applet that is crashing Win 7 then both sets of drivers probably would work.  I asked Frontier about Win-7 comaptibility and they told me that the the Vista package didn't work in Win-7 and that they hadn't made up their minds yet as to whether or not they are going to support the legacy ADAT cards for Win-7.  If it is, in fact, only a problem with the applet interface, they would probably be a lot less resistant to keeping up with the OS.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, I use the Vista 64 bit drivers.  I had to massage them into the O/S somehow (I can't remember what I did).  IIRC, it's the installer that doesn't know how to deal with Win 7 64 (through the full install).

I hate to see that they may be deciding to draw the line on support at Vista.  Maybe paid support would be a incentive?

Actually, I think it's just that they have tired of the ADAT interface cards.  My studio is highly ADAT dependent in that everything (except for most of my synths) are connected via Toslink through the two Apaches.  When I found out that they had discontinued the Apache line a couple years ago, I paniced and ended up finding a spare for $650  Anyway, during that panic stricken time, I was on the phone with them a lot and I just got the feeling that digital audio wasn't something they were much interested in (as a hardware developer) any more.

I've had my Dakota/Montana for at least 9 years now and I have always been remarkably impressed by how well Frontier has kept up with the driver situation.  Anybody reading this that uses Frontier audio gear may want to send them a note letting them know you are out there and would be very appreciative of them supporting Win 7 for the legacy ADAT stuff.

I had a third Tango AD/DA that I sold last year.  I happened on some good deals and an Ebay auction at the same time.  I wanted two which I bought flat out and I ended up winning an auction too.  So I kept the cleanest two units and sold the third.  I wish now that I had kept it.

If Frontier abandons the soundcard market, I will likely go to RME.  They are a little more feature rich in the real time monitor aspect.  I'll still be able to use the Tangos.

Actually as you can see from my sig that I made the switch to RME in my main DAW.  I do multimedia work as well as straight audio and consequently there are a bunch of non DAW computers in my studio that have audio connectivity provided by the Apaches.  Of the interfaces I have 2 Dakotas (one with a Montana) and 2 wavecenters.  Back in the days of SONAR 4, I had so many compatibility issues bwtrween the ASUS MB I had (remember the which Northbridge chip actually works with SONAR 4 days), the RME card and SONAR, I ebded up using the Dakota/Montana as my main DAW interface.

Same exact situation here. I think I'll drop them an email.

I ended up using the Dakota/Montana as my main DAW interface.

I have a Dakota/Montana and a WavecenterPCI. They are the best interfaces I've ever used. They just sit there and work, with no problems at all. And that's the problem. Why should they spend the time on updating their drivers when they haven't received any money from me in years?

I would actually pay for a driver update for the Dakota, I love it that much.

Same here! I'd be willing to pay for Dakota driver updates. The alternative of buying all new HW isn't a good one at this point now that I'm down to one income it's not even possible.

It looks like there are still a few MB out there that support PCI and the latest processors like the i7.  So, in theory I could do one last big update that includes these awesome cards and be set for about 4 or 5 more years.  Push come to shove I could just stick with XP Pro or Vista on the new HW.

Well ... It's time to stop dreaming about what I _could_ have and to get out tot he studio to actually use what I _do_ have before the wife and kids wake up. :-)

Happy new year everyone!

If you feel strongly enough, send sent them email at info@frontierdesign.com stating as such; I just did.
