Hi Alex,
Sure:
create a new project
create an audio track and put some audio on it
create a bus and route your audio track to it
insert an External Insert on that bus and set it up to use an external effect (ins and outs, latency)
solo that bus

Dean

EDIT: that was for 18719.

One more Edit (that'll teach me to post before having coffee),

For the other problem - CWBRN-24189:
create a new project
create an audio track and put some audio on it
put an external insert on that track that uses one mono output (eg, output 3)
Try and use the other output in that stereo pair (in my example that would be output 4) for something else in the project
Since one of the outputs in the stereo pair is used it causes the other output to be unavailable, just as if you had used a stereo pair instead of a mono.

Thanks Dean. Totally clear now.

Would it be possible to edit your last post and put the issue number next to the second issue so I could document it? Much appreciated...!

I too find the stereo limitation of the external effect to be a drag - I have a dbx compressor which can act as stereo or two mono compressors, and I'd like to be able to use the two mono compressors without having to use two pairs of inputs/outputs!

I've found the external insert to be quite buggy - most of the time it will not show my inputs and outputs correctly.  I have to go to my device properties in preferences, clear all the input and output checkmarks and reapply them to get them to show in the external insert.  Sometimes while doing so, Sonar crashes.  This makes it very tedious to use the external insert function.

That would seem to be system/interface-specific; I've not ever encountered that, and don't recall seeing it previously reported here.

2. Speaking of E.I. on a bus, there is a known bug (CWBRN-18719) where soloing a bus that has E.I. inserted results in silence. I work around it by putting the tracks that feed buses with E.I. into a folder and soloing from the folder instead.

Can anyone please tell me if this has been fixed or if there is a timetable on it?? I'm trying to work with this problem now, and it's maddening.

Hi jsvice,
Sadly it's still not fixed as of the Kingston update posted today, and I'm unaware of any timetable (note: I don't work for Cake so my being unaware of any timetables is not surprising). My impression has been that it's not a terribly high priority for Cake given the relatively small number of users that use E.I. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though....

One quick thing I should add: E.I. does appear to work correctly when soloing a an Aux. Keep in mind that an Aux track does not yet have the same solo "upstream" capabilities that busses do, so you'll need to group buttons to get it to work, and if you're trying to solo a send effect to hear a reverb tail or somesuch it's not a great solution, but it works OK for stem/group busses.

Thanks for the reply, Dean.  I'm trying to work with this by bouncing parallel compressed tracks.  It's a pain, but that works ok.  Can't do that with reverbs, really.  Too much tweaking going on.  Also, my plugin delay compensation isn't working correctly, on anything.  Compressors or reverbs.  Constantly getting a flamming sound on snare hits, like a delay. I'll be pulling my hair out soon enough.
