I had the very same error, Celemony informed me that the number I was trying to register (The essentials registration number i recieved with Sonar Platinum) was the same number I had upgraded to Editor that I recieved with X3.
I assumed I'd be getting a different number and my idea was that Id have another licence for more installations. Celemony were very efficient at answering my emailed questions.
However, Cakewalk are not, a week later and still no reply from Cakewalk support, so don't hold your breath for a reply from them.
