Sorry I set you off Craig, I didn't think my post was that negative.

The best anyone can hope for is a continuing flow of fixes, combined with enough features to keep those clamoring for new features happy.

Doktor AvalancheHowever ultimately ^^ what you are saying ^^ means we have to accept old bugs will rarely or never get fixed, as there will be hardly any time to do so if new features keep pouring out...

Anderton
OBVIOUSLY I AM NOT SAYING THAT AT ALL.
  • "A continuing flow of fixes" DOES NOT exclude fixing old or long-standing bugs.
  •  Saying "enough features to keep those clamoring for new features happy" DOES NOT equate to "new features keep pouring out."

You are completely missing the point that there does not seem to be enough time to fix all this. Even you made comments like this before (chicken and egg etc).  I didn't write about "excluding" did I ? I'll pass on writing it in capitals to make it look like it's a definitive statement sorry. As far as "new features keep pouring out" - well that's what I've been seeing over the last 10 months, sorry if I'm mistaken. I'm also NOT saying you are saying this, otherwise I would not have written the word "ultimately", that means "effectively" if you like.

Anderton
And your saying "If there is no developer available then a job should be advertised" is clueless, too. Cakewalk has advertised for developers on the freaking home page hero slider. They still are advertising for developers. In fact there are two openings right now

"If there is no developer available then a job should be advertised".
So your point is? (sorry I used caps this time).

Since it is of such vital importance that you always get the last word, you'll be happy to know I have to take a break from this forum...so I will have no response to whatever you post next. I can handle negativity, even non-constructive criticism from people I respect, but repeating the same thing over and over and over - as if you have some magical power where saying your negative mantras over and over and over again will conjure up developers and resources - is not even worth the time to read.

What exactly am I repeating Craig? Or does everything you don't like come under one umbrella?

I don't particularly like writing this, but that's the truth as I see it. Sorry...

Anderton
The truth as I see it is you should go find software that better fits your needs, and let the musicians who frequent this forum help each other get the most out of SONAR and make music. IMO both of those actions would have a much better chance of changing the world in a positive direction compared to what you're presently doing.

And if people think I'm being mean...I'm human, and can take only so much negativity. My presence here is all about my desire to provide solutions and help people accomplish what they want to accomplish. I bite my tongue a lot in this forum - A LOT - but I'll be damned if I'll sit back and let you put words in my mouth. If anyone has any questions for me about any of the tips or techniques I've presented, you can find me at my forum on Harmony Central.com.

I apologize to all the wonderful people in this forum, but I've had enough and it's going to take me quite a bit of time to cool off.

I also don't understand this comment: "I'll be damned if I'll sit back and let you put words in my mouth.". If you could clarify, if I have I'd be more than happy to apologize because this is my number one annoyance in these forums when it comes to me. I would argue that I feel you pretty much do this all the time with comments you don't like... Note this is a point.... NOT an attack.

Please notice that I'm not really coming up with these sort of statements towards you, I'm not going to label you either as that's really not going to help the points I am making. I'm trying to have a calm discussion, not an all out war, admittedly it is a discussion you don't particularly like, I'm sorry about that.. You aren't going to see me however respond in a similar fashion..

Sadly I don't have a fan club myself to apologize to, however if I've put you in a bad mood I'm sorry as well...

You know what, Dok, I reckon you're nearly there. A few more of these posts, and Cakewalk are going to re-organise their entire development process according to your suggestions. They'll probably even give you a throne in the middle of the coders' room to announce edicts from through a loud-hailer.

Keep at it, victory is so close, I can smell it.

Stability has been problematic for me. I like the new features but a couple of the builds caused me a lot of crashes or odd issues. The good part is they seem to be resolved in one or 2 builds. I still can't get my latency as low in Sonar as I do in Reaper, Protools, or Studio Live 3. Maybe this build.

Man, you'd think by reading some of the comments that the software today is so riddled with defects and bad design that it's a wonder any music is actually produced! It's a stunningly great piece of software imho, equal in quality to any other software with equivalent complexity out there, with a production model in place will put Sonar ahead of its competitors in time.

I personally do not care for the idea of "stability releases." All of the releases to date have in some measure been stability releases with the bonus of new features and content. This is just good business and is pretty standard throughout the application software industry. It's also pretty clear at this point that Cakewalk is not super interested in the idea of bug fix only updates, and they likely have evidence to justify that position.

I find it exceedingly refreshing that we're arguing about update priorities at all at this point in the Platinum lifecyle. If Cake had decided to keep on keepin' on with Sonar X4, the end of the fix/update cycle would have been reached with the Everett update. Not to mention that no new features would have been released in any of the updates, only fixes. We'd be looking at another six months at least before X5 came out, and I'd have to pay the upgrade price to get them.

So yeah, this new model rocks. Hard.

Well done..

TBH I seriously doubt that some of the people who obsess about bug fixes actually make any music themselves :) Music is the whole point of buying and using this software, not keeping track of bugs.
Write some songs or talk about how you are making music with SONAR instead, which is the primary objective of this forum. It will be way more valuable to others than obsessing about the software.

Sorry, don't get it. I can just skip over posts I find repetitive. calling people names and having to stop using the forum seems absurd. Hey, you can just block them. It is just a forum, for gosh sakes. I find it hard to get real emotional about  forum. I don't even know these people  why get all worked up? I can't really get all bent out of shape concerning DAW software(there are a lot of choices that will work). I save that stuff for my wife and kids

I've mixed one LP and mastered another since this thread started. I dunno where people find the time for all this bellyaching.
