Hi, J.

There is a combo of scheming, learnin' and a bit of too busy/"lazy" to make the jump right away.

What I REALLY want to do is setup a separate partition on my C drive to install Win10 on (and all my music gack) so I can test it all out/switch back and forth and so on.

Probably sounds nuts but I actually want to keep both active for some study/tutorial type stuff I'm planning.

Glad to hear it's working well for you though. I know you were getting bonked up on occasion previously but you certainly sound like a happy camper now.

Cheers and thanks.

Join the nuts brigade, that's what I do.
The main thing to remember is when making a new windows 10 OS partition for dual boot, that you install a previous version of windows first for it to upgrade upon.

As regards Rapture Session, will the CCC download force all 4GB of the content onto the C drive, as it does with Dim Pro?  I would like to download it, but cannot do so if it is going to have to be on my C drive, which has limited space.  I would much rather have it on the drive I use for samples/content, but the CCC doesn't seem to allow this.

If that is still the case, it really needs to be fixed.  I don't use Dim Pro anymore because of this.  If it is possible to reroute the sample content, please let me know how.

Thanks!

Google "site:forum.Cakewalk.com Dimension Pro Samples registry" I am on my phone now, but the pointer to the DP samples is a registry entry. You can edit that path and move the 6GB sample directory to another drive (same new path).

There were a few posts detailing how to do this.

Thanks.  I did see those a while back and despite being rather computer savvy, tried and failed.  It may be due to multiple previous installs of Dim Pro having muddled the registry.  I believe I was having serial # issues, as well, based on registry entries.  I first bought and installed Dim Pro individually, then received it with X3 Pro and again with Platinum.

Either way, we shouldn't have to be down at the registry level to get this done.  CCC should allow us to choose where such things are installed, and the registry entries should follow.

I keep all my samples for Cakewalk instruments on a separate drive. The five Rapture Session sample libraries for different instruments can be downloaded individually to the C drive, moved to a different drive, and then you can use the mklink symbolic link command or a registry entry to "point" the instrument to the new sample location.

Thanks, Craig.  I'll give it a shot, but it still seems less than ideal.  I haven't had such problems with other "master" installers, such as XLN's or that of the now defunct Camel Audio.

I queried about Rap Pro file path management before it even got released. Never got an answer so I just took the risk thinking it must have been sorted out, it's just too obvious not to. I was wrong. Sadly lessons were not learned from Dim Pro and Rapture days, I would regard file path management in settings as a basic feature in the UI nowadays, esp when you look at other products. You can hack the registry (if you are brave), or mklink (if you are into spaghetti snakes and ladders). It's a bit like Linux in 1990.. Anyways... even if you do all that it's still a mess.

We were promised another RP service pack a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, sadly has still not materialised. Instead we see this 'give away' (not clear if there are exclusive features with this or not) which was not announced at launch time, would have been nice to know back then this would happen . Well whatever. Not against this cut down version of Rap Pro but paid Rap Pro customers appear to be forgotten about. If they haven't been forgotten, then the wait time is unacceptable. Ta.

Agreeably, I'd like to see Rapture Pro still "looked after".  Some fixes like the "stuck notes" and new sounds, etc.  I thought the release of Rapture Pro was keeping it alive, but all seems kinda silent.  This new freebie seems highly likely to cut sales of Rapture Pro down the line, so maybe it's lived its lifespan in the VSTi world.  Short lives....

SPOILER ALERT: Han Solo will soon verify "It's all true... the [registry hacks required], the [workarounds necessary],... it's all true."

On a serious note, in the registry, this path on the left pane:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\dp

has a string value on the right pane called "Multisamples Folder" - if you right click that, you can "Modify..." that to a different path. If you move the "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro\Multisamples" folder to another drive, the new entry should be the new path before the \Multisamples (in this case the "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Dimension Pro" which is the default)

What that entry does is give the path to Dimension Pro's internal browser window when it opens.

A simpler, more elegant "solution" would be to allow the user to use DP's browser window to navigate out of its "registry leash" and allow the user to assign a new (default) folder there, but that would require DP to be modified, which is unlikely.
