If you are using instances of Pentagon II in your projects, you will need to run as Administrator. There are probably others but that is one that I noticed.

After running into certain programs that require Run As Admin (while others don't) I just said "frack it" and now whenever I install anything I use the right click > Run As Admin route.

That way I don't run into any annoying/time wasting surprises.

Bit strange that you could not save the project Portsham as projects are set by default to save to a non protected area of the disk, for most installs this defaults to C:\Cakewalk Projects.  Which can of course be changed to another location within Preferences > File Locations.

I can't save projects in win 10 32 bit unless I set sonar to run as admin as described in my previous post. I have a purpose built DAW with 2 physical HDD, one with 2 partitions and have set the save options to where I want them. If I don't run sonar as admin, I can't save projects.

I just tried running SoundForge 10 from within 64bit SONAR on Win10. My user account is setup as an administrator. Neither program is setup to run administrator, however; they both seem to work together OK.

I just noted that Soundforge Pro 11 is set by the installer to run as administrator.

If you do not want to run SONAR as administrator and still use Pentagon grant the user group full control on the

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\rgc:audio software\DXi\Pentagon I

registry entry. This is done in regedit by
right-clicking on the entry in the registry,
select permissions from the context menu,
click on the users in "Group or user names"
checking Allow for "Full  control" in "Permissions for users"

Confused, could be a permission thing on the disks/folders you are trying to write to, can you check the security permission on the folders you are saving projects to.

My old Q6600 machine has no problems but then I am running 64 bit Win 10 and 64 bit SONAR.

I doubt it is necessary to run 11 as adminstrator, however; this could explain why SONAR must be run as administrator to launch it. Sound Forge Pro 10 does not install with elevated privileges.

Interesting. I have never run either Sonar or Sound Forge as administrator without issue. Perhaps it is dependant on system settings?

Better safe than sorry. What I posted earlier in this thread was actually a quote from Sonar Official website (Run as Administrator). Do it your way (and hope for the best or just do it the instructed way and never look back). Matter of personal taste and fortitude (of course).

Hello Everyone,

I seem to remember Sonar X1 - X3 (and possibly earlier versions) needed Sonar to be "Run As Administrator" - infact it installed as such by default (I remember seeing the yellow icon over the Sonar icon).  I just installed Sonar Platinum today on a new PC and realize it is not set to Run As Administrator.

Is this something that should be set or does it not matter anymore?

Thank You!

Sonar has never set itself to run as administrator(certainly not the X series).  It's generally best avoided as you could land yourself into other issues (drag and drop/security/permissions issues etc). Best do reg hacks with older plugins if they won't run, or better still abandon those plugins if you have the stomach for it. Otherwise guess you are left with no choice. My advice don't do it unless you fall into an issue.
