After running into certain programs that require Run As Admin (while others don't) I just said "frack it" and now whenever I install anything I use the right click > Run As Admin route.

That way I don't run into any annoying/time wasting surprises.

I think that was Microsoft's intention.  When rt-clicking on an exe file and choosing Run As Administrator you are running with elevated permissions.  In a "home" environment you are probably "the" administrator of the machine but if your PC is managed by others then that may not be the case.  Just because you are part of the Administrator group does not necessarily mean that you have full admin rights.

I hate running any application as an administrator and will either do what it takes to fix it so that I can run it as a regular user or banish the software from my computer. That's just giving code I didn't write far too much power over my system. I'd particularly worry about any freeware VST's that require elevated access. In this day and age there is absolutely no reason for music production apps to require that kind of access.

By the way, I also run as a standard user, not as an admin. That way I can't accidentally grant excessive permissions to nefarious bits of code if I were to hit a link I shouldn't have in an email.

If you find that you do need to run Sonar as an administrator, get Cake support on the phone and resolve the real problem.
