...after tech support snobbishly told me it was an old plugin,
what is a good replacement for the CA-2A?

Its not a old plugin. Even if it were that has no impact on its usefulness. http://www.cakewalk.com/products/CA-2A/

Yup - I LIKE it just fine.

There are all kinds of 'new' emulations of hardware from the 50's.  The vintage real deal stuff from way back when sells for CRAZY amounts of money.

Are you having sort of issues with it?

There are numerous other plugin options for LA-2A type compression.
But... the CA-2A is certainly not old or obsolete.

What issue/s are you having?
The CA-2A is working fine here.

Hi. I would not replace it unless you have a problem that is not solvable. I prefer the CA2A over UAD LA2A, if that matters,
All the best.

I don't know why they would tell you it's an old plugin. I certainly have no issues with the ProChannel module version.

I also have Native Instruments' VC2A which I like a little better (it's made by Softube) but the Cakewalk version is well worth keeping.

Different courses for different horses.

I prefer the UAD LA-2A over CA-2A. But as has been said there is nothing wrong with the CA-2A.

Try the Klanghelm MJUC. It's very versatile. I don't think there's an emulation of the LA-2A, but it sounds fantastic. Try the demo.

I for one can't imagine this happening.

Me either! Nor does it make any sense.
