So i have just got my first audio interface , It is the PreSonus Audiobox 2 . I have my semi acoustic in one input and my condensor mic in the other input .
Now in order for me to use my speakers which are plugged into my pc i have to select MME as the driver or SONAR does not see my speakers.
There is a connection on my PreSonus for a pair of headphones , I was wondering if i get a adapter i could plug my speakers into the connection and use ASIO drivers , But would that prevent other applications like webbrowsing or playing games from playing sound through the speakers as my speakers would be connected to the PreSonus .
Basically i want to use ASIO drivers as they are better than MME but also have all other sound work normally .

Ideally you would get a different (and better) pair of monitors, leaving the desktop speakers connected to your computer soundcard.  But yes, there are cables and adaptors that will let you use computer speakers, which should be 1/8 inch stereo and need to connect to the PreSonus, which probably has 1/4 inch line outs.

Windows drivers work fine for playback of regular 2-channel tunes, or web content.  I run my system with the Windows Default Audio Device set to use the speakers on a 32" HDTV, that functions through HDMI as one of my displays.  (My 2nd is another but larger HDTV).
 
Then, music applications like Sonar are the only things that point to the ASIO drivers of my audio interface.
 
I used to have a little set of PC speakers, but just use the TV's speakers now.
 
The above keeps it so there is never any conflict with things trying to share ASIO.

If i have ASIO set then it does not see my speakers (which are really nice ones by the way ) 
I want it set up so i can use ASIO for recording and playback through my speakers . 
I do not want to buy another set of Monitors just yet .
 
I also need it to not affect sound from any other application like Media player ,Gaming ,Web pages .
 
I could probably just record using ASIO and then change the driver to MME for playback but that will get tiresome really quick .

Plug your computer type speakers into the headphone jack of your interface. Computer speakers are made to be connected in that manner. 
Most people use the rear outputs and a set of studio monitors either self powered or powered by a amp. You can use an old stereo system in a pinch. I have even used a getto blaster that had RCA inputs. 
But you cannot use computer speakers using your interfaces ASIO drivers via the on board sound card. 
I have always just used ASIO  and an audio interface and it will also play windows sounds and all sound from the computer. Just don't leave Sonar running as some apps will swicth clock rate on you. Unless , like me your use only 44.1. Then most things will play. 

So if i plug my speakers into the audio interface using a adapter i cannot use ASIO drivers  ?
 
That kind of defeats the purpose .
 
The only way to use ASIO is by buying a set of Monitors  ? ?
 
 

Cactus said to plug your computer speakers (1/8 inch plug) into the headphone output (again, likely 1/8 inch) of your Presonus interface.  Then use ASIO with it.  He said to forget about the reltek or whatever your on-board card is - you can't use it, the Presonus and ASIO since ASIO will only allow you to use one driver at a time, not both the Presonus and reltek.  I said to buy an adaptor, but the headphone out will work too.
 
There are ways to assign your computer sounds - boot up, music, porno on youtube to your Presonus, but it is likely to have some problems since MS uses a bunch of 8 bit samples and gawd knows what format youtube etc. are.  Music interfaces are designed to deliver one audio format efficiently in and out of your computer; reltek etc. are designed to output all audio formats but not record any one format efficiently.  If the Presonus has problems syncing up w/ SONAR after watching funny cat videos on FB, that is the reason, tho not all systems do.  So pick your possible poison.
 
 

Have any of you been reading about iConnect Midi +4 or the just being released iConnect Audio +4? Recording has a bit on page 48 in this June's issue. It allows you to interface multiple midi sources (and audio! ) on multiple computers and they can be Mac-PC-iOS with ease and lots of flexibility. So, the one ASIO device thing might be over for good.
