So, I cloned my C drive to one of my SSD drives.  When I plugged in
the SSD to my C Drive slot, got a device error message.  Took the drive
back out, and went to plug the original C drive back in.  No go.  Couldn't
figure out why the data cable wouldn't plug in.  Plugged the SSD back in
and it plugged in fine.  So took it back out and tried again to plug in the
original C Drive.  No go.  Took a look at the cable and the plastic retainer
from the SSD for the data connector was stuck in the SATA cable .  So, fortunately
I had an unused SATA cable, and was able to be back up and running again.
Using a safety pin I was able to get the broken connector out of the cable,
but it wasn't fun....believe me!

Alas, now my Kingston Hyper X SSD is now toast .  Nothing critical on
it, so only lost the drive.  It was about 3 years old anyways so was
due to be pushed to "back service" anyways.  So, be advised to be EXTRA careful
(which I always try to be) when plugging in your drives.  Those connectors
aren't very stout apparently.

Just my fun for the day, so thought I'd share my adventure...

Sharing thoughts on a fun day, not really about software. Sorry about the drive loss.

My summer fun was the discovery last week that my first floor music studio has been sitting in water for ages. Whole south side section of the walls and floor rotted out. Major salvage effort going on. Vintage synths and modules, amps rusted.
The downstairs setup was for a maze of hardware and computer communications I designed 15 years ago. Almost worse than the damage was taking apart all the wiring and wondering if I can ever figure out what was connected to what.

Back to water world.

Well, that certainly makes my bad deal seem a WHOLE LOT better...

Sorry to hear that John!  Hopefully insured!

Unfortunately no insurance that will cover the slow deterioration of probably decades. If it had been a catastrophic one time storm, the fine print of the insurance would allow some coverage. It's only money (a lot).

Sorry to hear/read both of your bummer stories.  Are there any country songs in these disasters?

Water and music gear do not go together. Ouch!
Thanks for reminder on hard drive connectors Lars. Good to be careful.

Hmm...
Country music hit...
Think I'll visit one of the local bars, see if I can borrow a cowboy hat and go wallow around in cow pies for awhile.
There's got to be inspiration in this somewhere.

Ouch indeed, Lars. Here with you. Edith in tears. Will send her for consolation. Mine of course.

I recommend an old pickup truck instead of cow piles (patties).  The truck will smell marginally better.

I'm always suspicious of the longevity of a SSD.  I had a Seagate 500GB HD die after about 8 years of service.  That basically cost me $6 a year in use.  AP2496 (2) still in use.  Maybe about $10 a year.  I still have WD Blue 320gb functioning as storage drives.  I guess some have gotten over 3 years of service from SSD but with the higher prices the cost vs. longevity makes me wonder if adding more of them is worth it.  I have Intel with a 5 yr, SanDisk with a 10 yr warranty.
Lucky you didn't ruin the board.
