Here is the FAQ http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/SONAR-FAQ#start

Assuming nothing changes in 3 to 4 years, a) there will be a fee of some kind, the current published fee is $199 and b) you will receive the current version of SONAR at that time and upgrades for the following year. If in the period you were not a member some exclusive content was released (there have been a couple so far), you would not receive those.

Since I asked  the original question, I would like to expand my question to this:

If I decline to renew in December, and ride what I have until, say three or 4 years from now (random numbers, theoretical question here), can I assume that I would a) have to pay the renewal price (currently $199) whatever that may be then and b) paying that price would entitle me to everything new that has already come out since I opted out plus all the things for the upcoming year?  Is this how this new model actually works?  Forgiveness requested if this is in a FAQ somewhere, but I couldn't locate the answer.

Yes. That's how it works. However there will be some of the one off monthly "percs" that you miss out on. Kind of like how the X2 Content Club worked.

The core program and toolset will be complete and cumulative though... unless they specifically add something like an effect then remove it again before you buy back in (like due to stability or whatever as we've seen with other plugs such as the VC64, R-Mix, etc). And yes you'd get the following year of stuff as well.

That is of course if the purchase model remains exactly as it is.

Well, that seems pretty fair overall.  Thanks for that.

And thanks for posting a link to that FAQ, by the way.  It explains everything quite well.
