As Noel mentioned there could be something crashing that Sonar cannot recover ... what are the 3rd party tools(FX, VSTs) used in your troublemaker projects?

One thing that sucks about X64 is that crashes on the main application thread can get swallowed up by Windows. i.e the exception never gets caught! So you never see the crash but then the app is left in a random unstable state. It makes it hard to find the root cause of issues like this. I suspect something like that here.

I think we may have found a repro for this issue. Dan found a root case that I was able to repro on my DAW at home with a UFX. The crash itself has nothing to do with the UFX :)

CWBRN 31502: Hang/Crash occurs on audio export with some mains muted
1. Open any project in Sonar
2. Mute one set of main outs (in my case, outs 3+4 on US-366)
3. Open export dialog, choose "Entire Mix" (outs 1+2 & 3+4), wav file, 16 bit, then press "Export".
Expected results: Sonar exports project as a wav file, with only output from "Outs 1+2" being audible.
Actual results: Sonar crashes, and offers to send a crash dump to Cakewalk, which fails every time.

The important part of the report is not muting the mains itself but clicking on the mains strip prior to the bounce.
That results in the bad code path being executed. Essentially there was an out of bounds index in the UI causing a crash. However in X64 often the crash is masked and it looks like a hang since the app is now in a random state.

Its VERY likely that the hangs you are seeing are related to this same crash. This is NOT a new issue to JP - I am able to reproduce this same crash even in X3 :) Anyway its fixed now.

Very good news indeed. The constant attention to these issues is making CW the very best developer around!

What's been "fixed"?
CCC stills show Jamaica Plain 21.9.0.40.
I'm bringing the Cat into the office for some Win updates, Amp4 install, etc.
Do I install JP to the Cat or not?
I don't have time for a bunch of timing issues, etc.
It seems a lot of users have rolled back to 21.8...

And many more have had no issues with JP.

Noel explains it in his post above.  Did you read it?

The issue was not Jamaica Plain specific, but involved a specific set of circumstances and goes back at least to X3.

The fix will be in the next update.

If you're not experiencing the issue. then don't worry about it.

"Anyway its fixed now."
Not until its in the CCC.
Just sayin'...
I read, and understood, Noel's post.
If you'll remember, a "beta" exe file was released on an earlier update.
When I read "fixed now", I thought maybe JP had been updated or possibly a new beta exe was available.
Thanks,
T

SOLVED!!  Was so sure my issues were Audio - turns out my midisport 4x4 drivers somehow got messed-up ... so after many hours of messing around on the audio side I thought I would unplug the midisport and voila Sonar JP is working fine. A bunch more playing then uninstalled/reinstalled the midisport drivers and everything is working fine again. Not sure what happened but looks like everything is solid again ... darn no new gear required ... yet!

I have been having tons of issues and constant crashing with Sonar Platinum recently ... This post is sounding very related to my issues with my Presonus 2626.

Things have been very solid until this JP release. Lately I open a project and make a couple of stop/starts and boom crash total freeze of Sonar - reboot required. Feeling very much like asio related and somehow tied to JP ... as its been great like I said until recently.

So ... Any chance we could see a patch before the monthly release? As is I have to go backwards 1 or 2 versions to find something stable cause it's unusable right now for my setup.
