  • Re-registering an X2 license under a different name

Hi all,

I am using a copy of Sonar X2 given to be my granddad, registered under his name. He's since moved on to X3. What we want to do is de-register X2 from under my granddad's name, then register it under mine. This also includes Dim pro and I believe Z3ta.

How do I go about doing this?

Cheers

This type of issue can only be handled directly by Cakewalk. Their contact information is here http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2090582

Keep in mind when someone buys SONAR they receive a single user license for the product. When the user subsequently upgrades to a new product, they do not receive an additional license, they are upgrading their existing license. This means they cannot give away or sell their old product without surrendering their one and only license to use the product. IOW, unless the person who gave you X2 purchased a full version of X3 instead of paying for the X3 upgrade you do not have a license to use X2.

Yeah - it is expressly written into the license acceptance dialog, and the person registering the initial purchase had to check boxes that indicate single-owner (non-transferable license), and one machine at a time.

The Cakewalk folks have always relied on the trusticity (I know that is a made up word, but I like it), of the users to be honest in the use and respect for the licensing - they could have gone the iLok route, or some other licensing management mechanism, but instead they rely on trusting us folks who buy and use the product to not give it away.

Thank you for your honesty with the situation.  :)

What Scook said in his 2nd paragraph is important. Firstly you need to check whether your granddad purchased X3 as a separate copy or as an upgrade. If the latter, then there is no point in pursuing this further.

The Cakewalk Command Center is not required to be used for downloading or for installing Cakewalk products.  Some folks have declined to use it, and have just done as they always have done with download/install of Sonar updates or other components.

indeed - but how do those folks activate their license after downloading and installing? is the old serial/activation code combo still available?

hi john - without a quote (or other indication of what "it" is) i'm not sure if you're replying to me? but if you are, thanks! if i get the latest sonar, i don't need to use the ccc at all? i know this is not true for rapture pro (ccc is required) but not for sonar? i certainly get prompted to get ccc installed to get the demo version of sonar
